I find this incredibly ironic. And strangely enough, very close to what i've expressed about the oil issue all the way through this whole progression. It's one thing to express what a pointless argument or reactionary sort of chant 'no blood for oil' was, it's another to have this sort of basis, especially of interest is the citation that analysts all the way through never gave that argument any real credence either.

Anyways. Just felt like sharing. Carry on.

They're gonna be in for a surprise when America stops paying those subsidies on the oil.

Dor, when people made sarcastic references to cheap oil they weren't talking about the American consumer. The fear is that American energy companies will extract and refine oil, sell it at the market price, and make enormous profits from the sacrifice of our soldiers.

It'd be much cheaper to just grow lots of opium and get the Iraqis hooked on it, and then have them have to buy it from us with oil which we would turn around and sell at enormous profits..
We could call it the "Hop for Oil" program.

But then they would eventually revolt, and we'd have to lay the smacketh down. Then eventually they'd become communist.

Excellent. He remember his history.

I'm paying $2.30 here...two ****ing dollars and thirty cents for a gallon. Now I'm paying for THEIR gas?? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/mad.gif]

I hope Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, NY Times, et al release this story. This whole Iraq s*** better get squared away right quickly or the American populous is going to throw A LOT of politicans to the fire.

Maybe if your governments didn't tax the gas so much, you wouldn't have as high prices...

$2 for a gallon of petrol isn't really that expensive though, is it? You're whining about petrol going from super cheap to just cheap! Oh you poor things!
It's the equivalent of about $5.60 per gallon in the UK right now, that's the sort of price range where protests start up and lorry drivers make blockades [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

A full tank of diesel for my mum is about £22. About 80% is tax. That's about £17.60 of tax on the fuel... and that's about 35 litres (mum never goes below about 15 litres).

"Wah! The country we invaded is getting cheap petrol instead of us! We didn't demolish their infrastructure to give them benefits! They should stop using so much petrol to power the generators they need because we demolished their power grid and they have no effective government!"

Yeesh.

Petrol is about $2.80 a gallon in Australia, and it's far worse in many other countries. I don't think the Iraqis are exactly rejoicing over cheap petrol when they're earning an average of a thirtieth of an American, and have a war-torn country.

Also i would like to point out that i have /never/ before heard that explanation. All the number of times i've heard people go off about 'no blood for oil' or 'we are just there for the oil', they've /never/ bothered to expound upon it in any coherent fashion beyond repeating themselves or insinuating that since i'm asking them to clarify their position that i'm an oil-swilling war-mnger or something, not all of them have been that bad, but that is a new explanation to me at least.

Oil is used for a lot more than just petrol. Oil is used in fertilisers to grow crops, oil is used to make clothes, but most oil goes into making plastic which is used pretty much everywhere.
With the rising cost of oil, the price of petrol should be the least of your worries.

Probably alot like "Ozone Action Days", which I'm pretty sure 99% of the public doesn't understand, and thinks that its to save the ozone layer.

People don't understand half of the crap they say.

That's interesting, the lowest grade "normal" petrol you can buy in Australia is 91 octane. The "Premium" stuff is 95 octane, and the high octane stuff is 98+. Of course, we're paying around $0.95AUD a litre at the moment...

It goes 87, 89, 91 in the US if I'm not mistaken.
