Why is Matti Vanhanen not in this poll?

Tarja Turunen is the ex-singer of Nightwish. This other Tarja is the President of Finland

According to Finnish law, if no candidate gets over 50% of the votes in the first round of voting, there will be a second round with only the two candidates, who got most of the votes.

During the first round, Tarja Halonen got less than 50%, and Sauli Niinistö something like 24%. So, a second round was undertaken. Matti Vanhanen got around 19%, earning the third place, and so he didn't make it to the second round.

Tarja Halonen is a left wing politician. Sauli Niinistö and Matti Vanhanen (the current prime minister) are more right wing / center / conservative. In the parliament, the center / right wing is actually much stronger than the left wing, but the conservative field is more dispersed, and so it's harder to get them to vote one candidate. And also Tarja gets votes from many women just because she's a woman.

See, in the first round, you can actually vote for the person you want to win, and then in the second round, if your candidate doesn't get through, then you can vote for the "anybody but X" candidate.

Also, it's by popular vote, none of that silly electoral stuff. But then again, there are under four million votes to count. Also, our ex-pats get to vote, even if they don't have an address in Finland, as long as they're citizens and over 18. Also, our presidents have a six year term. So they spend more time actually in office instead of getting their party's political machine running and campaigning for re-election.

Neither of the candidates are bad choices, but personally, I'd like to see someone else than Tarja and the Social Democrats have a go at the position for another term.

Doesn't an album go platinum there if it sells more than 10,000 copies?
