How would I go about doing this? And is there any freeware programs that can do it?

theres one for winamp that can do it while you listen. it doesnt get everything, and the sound quality goes down, but it works ok.

analogx vocal remover KINDA works SOMETIMES but if you don't have any audio editing software that works with directx plugins then you can't do what you want unless you use an mp3 or wav output plugin for winamp

YOU CANNOT DO IT.

Not well enough for karaoke, anyway.

If you did it, you'd have to 'touch up' the song again afterwards. It could be done, but not really with the click of a button; it'd require a bit of fiddly stuff too.

You'd actually be surprised at the number of songs you can purchase without words; espically popular ones.

Run a bandpass filter on it.

Thrawn is right, (at least, I don't know any way to do it automatically, and no way to do it perfectly even with lots of software) so you're probably better off trying to find a mix without vocals in it.

you can use the V5 of goldwave either to remove vocals if they are in the 'center' channel - recorded equally on both left and righ by cancelation or you can run a band-pass filter on it. If you want to convert the files into an .mp3 then you also need to pick up an encoder. you can find a trial of goldwave (3000 commands) and an mp3 encoder at www.goldwave.com
