Crap, I hope they're okay.

Lot of mining accidents recently. It's weird.

Something like five thousand people die every year in China in mining accidents (an arbitrary reference). Mining in western countries is like child's play compared to the situation in the multitude of remote mines in China.

Still, it suck every time, of course. I'm not saying that every accident wouldn't be a disaster, no matter how many or few happened.

Yeah, it's just like child kidnappings during the whole elizabeth smart era. You heard about a bunch of different kidnappings as if it was something new, but then they started getting less attention, she got rescued, and you don't hear about them at all anymore.

You notice that the media has tunnel vision, when they find a topic they're interested in they stick to it. Celebrities like ben & jen, brad and angelina, etc. Kidnappings, mining stuff, etc. Eventually they stop making such a big deal over them and it shows just how cold the media can be.

Yeah, the media definitely has fads. One story can spawn a slew of the same type. There were trends like kidnappings, prison breaks, and now mine accidents.

This is exactly why we need make all dangerous labour done with robot workers. The human ex-miners can be given large severance packages, or given other jobs elsewhere.
