The UN projects India to overtake China in population by 2030, a date that has been moved back from other predictions. Story here.

It shows that the one child policy has been effective but has also perhaps instilled a cultural trend. As for India, it would be ideal for them to put a similar policy in place, but they are a democracy full of varying groups. Such action would be too radical to have effect.

Bleck. While those damn indians are multiplying like rabbits, population growth is declining in Quebec. This sucks because they counter that by importing chinese. :(

Well, back in the days (look back maybe two generations out here in quebec) people used to have from 6 to 12 children per familly. Now, the average birthrate in Quebec is not even at 1 per family. I know one guy with five children, apart from that most people I know have 1 or 2 children. I myself only plan to have 1 or 2.

Thing is, the cost of living grows higher every year, but our salaries don't grow in relation to it. So you can't afford to have a family of 6 to 12 children in these times. Unless you want to live like they do in China.

Studies shows that Mexico's population is going down while the US population (in the southern border) is raising quite dramatically. The population increase can be easily observed by stopping by any fast food chain in Southern California.

Large families are a hold over from when people had to work farms for a living, and kids were used as labor.

I'm in an odd mood, for some reason I laughed like a hyena at that. Hell, half the posts I do nowadays, I'm drunk on studying most of the day, so I guess everything is.

I can just picture some guy saying the Norris quote, and then pondering a second about how awesome that would be (in a thinking pose), then goes on to lecture the guy...
