You ought to be more grateful. After all, the second option is the correct one solely by virtue of being the one I picked.

The experiment was to see the distribution of a person's selection. As it turns out, they tend to lean more toward the middle results while overlooking the first and last options.

Mostly I was just trying to guess which mirror a person tends to select in a list of mirrors. Now we know the correct course of action: Pick the first one or the last one for the fastest bandwidth.

Truly Awesome Jon.

Neat. Mirrors.

I usually just pick the first one in a list anyways; my connection isn't fast enough that it would make a difference how many people were already connected.

An ingenious experiment. It might even be a valid one. Who knows. Very smart thinking, nonetheless. Although I should point out the result is exactly what was to be expected.

Of course, this works only on places that have a fixed mirror list. Places like filefront and such randomize the list (probably for this purpose).

erm, I bet if you'd made each instance of "option" instead say "mirror" it would have been more evenly distributed. All this "experiment" did was confirmed what they teach in school where B & C are more often picked then A or D and C is the most often picked of any of them. To this end, a lot of people I know pick "A" or "D" servers for just this reason.
