I'm building it. Here's the specs:

Pentium 4, 2.8Ghz
250 gig HD
Geforce 6600LE 256 megs
1 gig RAM
DVD burner
And a neat lookin case right here. (even though you'll say it sux cus thats what people around here do).

Cost around $600... but it blows away the POS I have right now.

So post your specs, or something.

Not only does Powmax make the crappiest power supplies in existence, but that case is also very gaudy. All your other specs are cool though.

Anyway.

Looks decent for the price, but I would have spent less on the size of the HD and more on a better processor, regardless of your choice between Pentium or AMD.
2006-02-05, 9:06 PM #8
You could've gotten a lot better computer for that amount. Seriously, you should've been able to pull off a 6600GT (the LE has 2 less pipelines I think, along with much lower clock and regular GDDR instead of GDDR3), an AMD64 3000+ at least (socket 939).

AMD Athlon XP 1800+ overclocked...too much (33% speed increase)
1 gig of PC3200 Corsair Value
40gb Maxtor and 160gb Western Digital
LG DVD Burner
Chaintech 6800GT

That's it as far as the tower goes.

If you're going to spend that kind of money on a CPU that will do you no good for gaming, for the love of christ why would you get a 6*00 series GPU?

Celeron D 335 2.8 ghz (overclocked to 3.04 ghz)
768 mb RAM
80 gb HD
Radeon 9600 XT (256 mb RAM)
Creative 24-Bit Sound Blaster Live!

Linksys Wireless Adapter

Might be in the lower class of PCs, but is able to play games like HL2 and Battlefront II on full graphics and sound quality online, without a hint of lag.

1GB RAM (about to be 2gb)
Geforce 6600GT PCI-E (about to be better)

Pics are before the sound card so empty PCI slots.
Way too many fans, my box sounds like a jet engine and CPU never goes above 35C, even in the midst of summer under heavy load. I'm about to install a custom switch that kills all lights and fans except the vital ones when they're not needed, like on cool nights if I want to listen to soft music and the PC must be running.

I agree, except for a few cases, like what Lian Li and Silverstone offer. And half the time they don't have windows anyway.

Actually, though, sometimes there IS something cool on the inside. I've seen people mask off board traces with flourescant paint or ink, it looks awesome under UV...

Currently?

1.05 ghz AMD God-knows-what
384 SD RAM
40 gig HD that's crapping out
nVidia GF2 MX200 (32 mb of Vram)
A broken CD-R, DVD rom, and a crapping out CD-R.

In a few months when I buy my new computer?

I don't know what to call this proccessor other than some Athlon 64 3700+ that runs at 2.2 ghz

The mobo, Gigabyte GA-K8N-Other stuff

GeForce 6600GT or somesuch.
DVD burner.

1 gig of DDR RAM, I may buy a second stick as well.

80 gig harddrive, I will probably put my current harddrive in my new computer as well since it contains my music.

And the case. I don't care about looks.

Parts for new computer list provided by DJ-Yoshi. Total comes out to $613 believe with one stick of RAM.
I had a blog. It sucked.

I'd go with a different mobo (at least one that has a 5 star rating on newegg, at any rate), and I don't trust Maxtor. I'd get a SATA drive since you're getting a new board anyway, like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148040

Only a couple bucks more, much better warranty, and SATA.

Any mobo you'd like to reccomend?

Dell Dimension 8250

Pentium 4 2.40Ghz
512MB PC1066 RDRAM
128MB ATI Radeon 9700TX

Looking to upgrade to 1 Gig of RAM and a much newer(But still affordable) Gfx Card.
Price Range: About $300ish

Should I go with a new Radeon should I go back to Nvidia? Haven't had a Nvidia product since the TNT2...

It's fine for gaming. Using single core apps, it perform slightly better than a regular 2.4 GHz CPU. It should over clock well too. Games are so GPU limited now days, he probably wouldn't see any benefit upgrading to a FX57, unless he's running HL2, and then it will be negligible.

Are you ****ing with me? Or did I seriously just read this post? I mean, games being GPU limited...that's gotta be a joke. Please tell me that's a joke.

You'd have to spend about $40 more for a really good one.

DFI has great ratings, and Asus still makes good boards.

And don't ever listen to just one person's opinion (like Yoshi wants you to do). Take everyone's input, make your own mind up.

I don't care if he listens to Emon, Buck, Yecti, SD_Rakishi, Aglar, or most other technically able massasian's input. Hell, for that matter, almost any tech-savvy massassian period. I'm saying it for his own good--you're biased for poor reasons against a lot of companies. Not only that, but he can't afford a bigger better board and doesn't need one in any way shape or form because he's not going to overclock on his first pc.

EDIT: I take that bit back about Obi.

I gave perfectly legit reasons for not getting either of the products you mentioned. You'll have to find a better reason than "I'm biased" to counter it.
