Boricula needs to clean her desktop icons up. I bet she doesn't use half of them.

Also, if you find KDE slow, UPGRADE. KDE could be desribed as bloated, but Fluxbox is best described as "feature scarce", which is worse.

Or, seeing as its not possible TO upgrade a laptop...

KDE imitates Windows far too much, even down to the stupid black color bugs. And Fluxbox is so much easier to customize.

There's a reason Knoppix STD went with Flux instead of KDE :p

Tough I like dark themes, they aren't really usable. I switched back to something more "classic".

Oh, hush. Only kind of, and memory doesn't help if it is taking a lot of processing time.

(Forgive the slow response; no one PM'ed me, and I just noticed by chance.)

X.org 6.8.2, KDE 3.5, NVIDIA 81.78. Should improve with X.org+, NVIDIA+, and of course, Xgl and compiz (in Ubuntu but not Debian yet).

[QUOTE=Cool Matty]Keep in mind that most of the software you see, including the visual effects, is enough to lag a slower PC to HELL and is hardly worth the purtyness.

Fluxbox FOR THE WIN.

Not really. My computer is about five years old. My video card is about three years old. (Athlon XP 1700, 512 MB RAM, GeForce 4 Ti4200/128MB) I can smoothly drag windows around, and resize them. I'm using all of the NVIDIA driver's acceleration, and it works quite well. Sheesh, just imagine using this computer with Vista; but here I am using similar visual effects quite smoothly. And when Xgl becomes the norm, you'll be able to smoothly use even better effects with simple 3D acceleration, even on old laptops with integrated video. Why would anyone want to upgrade to use Vista when they could use this now, on old hardware? :/

Fluxbox is fine, but I'm not that much of a minimalist.

What color bugs are you talking about?

Personally, I think KDE's similarities to Windows boil down to the K menu and right-click menus, both of which far outshine Windows'. Other DE's are less like Windows, but they don't hold a candle to the power and ease of KDE. But the nice thing about Linux is that you can use whatever you want, and everyone can be happy.

KDE 3.5.1 is out, you know. How come you're still on 3.3?

...Because this particular workstation is running Debian Sarge, and Im too lazy to move to Sid.

Actually, come to think of it, 3.5 isnt even in Sid yet. So itll be awhile.
