Actors can be real jerks. I don't like Shakespeare, and there's this one time a Shakespearean actor said I must dislike him because I don't understand his "tragic irony". I told him I had just purchased a nutcracker decoration for the holidays and then 5 minutes later I smashed his nuts with my boot. "How's that for tragic irony?" I asked. It made me feel like an action star or something.

I think tragic irony is funny. For example, an alcoholic who drinks himself to the brink of death, but makes a miraculous recovery. He then decides to turn his life around, only to be hit by a bus while leaving the hospital. Well, it's either tragic irony, or God's a real *******.

True true

Either that or the devil was driving the bus and he wanted a drinking buddy

I have another interesting anecdote. When I read Arabian Nights the other day, I couldn't help but wonder what kind of person would name their son 'Sinbad'. It's just dooming him to a life of bad deeds. You might as well name your kid 'Baby Hitler' or something, but that's probably worse because Hitler's mustache is pretty pathetic. Stalin could easily win the World Mustache Contest though.

Actually, I think this guy's technically got him beat. But I'll give Stalin the benifit of the doubt, lest he rise from the grave and try to kill me.

Hey, come now, we all know it's about thickness, not length. You could hide a nuclear missle in Stalin's manstache.

The tragic irony of Shakespeare is that if the main character(s) left everything alone, nothing bad would have happened to them.

Yeah, and just imagine how embarassed he'd be after he wasn't a baby anymore. Everyone would call him Babyface, Babycakes, etc.

(Also, babycakes are actually quite scrumdiddilyumptious!)

Well, that's partly why it's so bad. Having the name of "Baby" would make anyone enraged! If he wasn't inspired by his namesake or didn't know basic history, being called a baby could easily push him over the edge into evil world dictator territory. I can see the history books now.

When I clicked this thread, I was thinking "it's by moneyobie, it must be spam!" But, it turned out that it was the only thread on the forum that grasped the concept of irony correctly.

I like Shakespeare because he is the all time master of humourous puns. No man can pun like Shakespeare.

Too bad Stalin is dead and his mustache is decomposed by now.

I think greek tragedies are better. Poor Oedipus Rex... he thought he could bring the killer of his father to justice but all he discovers is that he is the killer and that he screwed his own mother and had two girls with her that he can call both his daughters and sisters. No wonder he gouged his own eyes out in shame! I would have done the same.

Wouldn't it be more ironic if he was hit by a brewery truck?
nope.
