SWBF2 PC Update Delayed
This just in, the promised PC update for Star Wars: Battlefront II was been slightly delayed, according to this post from xtmn8r on the official LucasArts forums:

Posted: Jan 31, 2006 01:44 PM

Just wanted to give everyone an update since we are at the end of the month and yes, we do not yet have the patch to release. As the team has been making changes to the Mod Tools, we've had to sync up the game code to better support what the Mod Tools create. As a result, we've had to hold-off on the PC patch until we are fairly confident no other Mod Tool changes will affect the core game. We apologize for the delay but want to insure that when the Mod Tools are released, it works completely with the current version of the game. Our best estimate for release is likely the middle of next week.

Thanks again for your continual support of Star Wars Battlefront II

The Star Wars Battlefront II team

Special thanks to zerted of LucasForums for the heads up! Good luck to the Pandemic team...

I can wait a little bit longer. Anyone plan on modding the game when the mod tools come out?

Mod?

Making the classes more accurate to the movies is my plan. Provided it's not too much of a pain...

It's pretty evenly balanced. The single player campaign takes you from the conception of the 501st Clone Troopers until they become the 501st Storm Troopers. I'm currently at the Attack on Yavin IV (ground) after the destruction of the first Death Star. The single player campaign plays out like an army scaled Republic Commandos in that you have mission objectives to complete.

If you don't have a joy stick, don't worry, you can skip the space missions.

The ONLY thing I don't like about the game is that they used a lot of maps from the frist Battlefront game and only made minor changes to them. That and the ship interiors left much to be desired (the inaccurate "main" hanger in the side of an ISD kind of pissed me off too).

However, the "XL" (Massive battles that have well over 100 AI on the battlefield for each side at one time with little to no strain on performance) skirmishes on Hoth and the "Hunt" skirmishes on Hoth, Endor, and others, pretty much make up for that. One of the biggest upgrades is that the battlefields appear a lot larger. Where as in the first one you could pretty much tell where the skybox started, in the II it's difficult to tell where the skydome starts and stops. They're using a rendering system that I've never seen before that seems to allow models to scale down to 2D seamlessly at a distance.

Personally, I prefer Battlefront II to Battlefield 2. Sure Battlefield 2 has a somewhat graphical edge on Battlefront II but I just overall enjoy the gameplay more (both single player and multiplayer). That and playing the Hero/Villian characters is helluva fun time!
