If you have a steam account you can download Day of Defeat Source for free and play it this weekend. I thought some of you might want to know.

yep. tried a little earlier this afternoon. it was pretty fun, but id still take battlefield 2 over DoD:S any day. then again, if i wanted to play a WWII shooter id play Call of Duty.

Probably a couple gigs. Depending on if you have HL2 or not. Could also be just a few hundred megs.

I suggest that all people who own DoD:S NOT play this weekend.

I love the game. Took a little time for me to adjust to it, but once I did, I starting kicking *** again. Now that there are a few more maps and some good remakes availible now, it's worth getting.

Hmm. After the weekend, do they shut off the game's ability to connect to MP servers? Can you still explore the levels or is it a complete shut off?

It's $20, which is worth it as a stand alone, but yeah I know what mean. Smarter to have gotten it bundled with HL2 and CS:S.

I've been playing all afternoon and night, I like it but I like dod more I think... I'm more used to it. I really like the re-makes of the maps, like avalanche and anzio, Kalt is a decent re-make too.

But when are they gonna incorperate the brittish again? regular dod on dod_flash was german vs british... now it's german vs US.

the only other thing I find wrong is the guns look and feel better in regualr dod then they do in source.

I felt the same way when I started playing, but you'll get used to it.

What they also need is Canadian battles, we fought some of the most intense battles in WWII yet why are they not recreated?

No offense, but honestly...most WW2 games are marketed at America and SOME parts of europe. Canadian battles wouldn't really reach that demographic.

It might. But the American/European missions are much more popular, and sell better, and that's the only thing game companies look at nowadays. :\

Nah, the Russians were part of the allies. They should add the Japanese since they were part of the Axis. No one cares for the Italians so I don't expect them to ever pop up in a WW2 game. The French would be interesting but having 5 classes armed with white flags would be kinda boring.

the japanese and italians have popped up in the occasional WW2 game usually as an enemy the french usually pop up as some random french resistance dude you have to escort...

sticking to FPS games...

japanese in MoH:PA, MoH:RS, and BF42

italians in CoD2: Big Red One

french in MoH:Underground (you play as a french chick who has no white flag) and CoD2: Big Red One (as an enemy)

I agree, some canadian missions would be cool, or at least some skins of our uniforms.

Vimmiy Ridge? where the allies were trapped in a sticky situation and needed to capture a stratigic hill that looked into a valley, so they called The canadians, the allies took heavy losses trying to take the hill and never made it through, The Candians shelled the hell outta the german bunkers and attacked while the shells were still falling and took the hill.

Since that battle the Canadians were given alot of missions that the other nations couldn't take on and the Canadians got a reputation as pretty fierce fighters. (we had to be with out crappy weapons...)

Seriously, the only reason the canadians are left out of most games is because they are made by mostly american companies aimed at americans, and we all know how you yanks like to feed your ego and forget about the rest of the world.

One whole battle. I'm sure you could name a few more, but they just aren't as epic as the ones that the main countries were involved in.

Mussollini probably had a lot of really tough battles on his hands. Yet you never fight the Italians. The closest you get is dod_anzio.

The problem is not only do people not include a bunch of the smaller countries (or rather, countries that had a smaller part in the war), but then people from those countries like to say "If it wasn't for us...". If it wasn't for the US the war would've ended up a stalemate at BEST. If it wasn't for the British the war would've been massively one-sided. If it wasn't for the millions of Russians dead, no pressure would've been on Hitler's Eastern flank. Get over yourself--we all had an important part. If you want to be in a game so badly make a mod or your own damn game. Hell, it's just now that you've seen coverage of the desert theater in a well-known World War 2 game, and seen it done well.

Psst, Forgotten Hope has got you covered. Battles with Germans, Japanese, Polish, French, US, British, Canadian, Finnish, Soviet, and Italian vehicles and equipment. The BF1942 version is great, but stay tuned for the upcoming BF2 version.

[edit: I spelled Finnish with one n? For shame.]
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

we had our own uniform in WW2, Canada declared war on her own then and had her own military, in WWI that might have been diffrent since Canada was dragged into the war along with brittian as a colony under brittish control.

I was pretty sure that we also had some outdated weapons, rifles that would jam easily, can't remember the names but they were horrible in trenches because they'd jam up easily from the mud and dirt.

we did borrow a fair ammount of weapons from the bittish tho.
