Backstory: I'm looking to upgrade from a Radeon 9600XT to a 7800GS. I'm concerned about how much power that will pull, and so I pull up Gateway.com. It says I'm running 160W. What?

I shut down the computer, open the case, and the sticker says 160W.

I'm running the following on 160W, it seems.

1 Soundblaster Audigy
1 v.92 56K modem
1 ATI TV-in card
1 ATI Radeon 9600XT
1 GB (2 x 512) of PC2700 SDRAM
1 80GB 7200RPM WD HD
1 250GB 7200RPM WD HD
1 P4 2.53 gHz processor
1 DVD-RW drive
1 DVD-ROM drive

All on 160W. Or so Gateway insists.

I believe it -- many people seem to think that you need a monster power supply to run a basic system..and you really don't.

I have two SATA HDs, an optical drive, P4 3Ghz and an x800 running off a Dell 305w - I think you have me beat. :)

Well you see, that's actually feasible. Even P2's and P3's came with 200W PSU's. That's not even modest--that's ****ing tiny.

I think it's rebranded.
