Its funny to notice the significantly less amount of sympathetic comments when a black entertainer passes away, compared to when a white entertainer passes away. Not just here, but around the world.
2004-06-10, 12:02 PM #5
WTF. Ray Charles was the man. Just because I don't have anything to say doesn't mean I'm not sad. Color doesn't matter to me, and if you try to notice these things then obviously you do care about color. Lets not turn this into a debate, but he was a good man with a lot of talent, and there isn't much for me to say....so...

**** no. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]
Maybe people are sympathetic because he was a brilliant (and amazing, not a lot of people can play while they're blind) musician?

It's funny to notice that some people can turn anything into a racism debate. It's also funny to notice that most people visiting this site happen to still be in school, thus possibly too young to know who the guy is in the first place. Hell, I'm 26 and the only time I remember seeing him was on a couple of movies and a bunch of mcdonalds commercials. It's always sad when someone dies, but don't go turning this into some racist thread. Consider your audience before you post crap like this.

The only thing I remembered him for was the cult classic Ghostbuster theme song.
2004-06-10, 2:30 PM #11
...Ray Charles didn't do the Ghostbuster theme song, it was stolen (some say it wasn't, but whatever) from Huey Lewis And the News.

[http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] I'll always remember watching TV and seeing Ray Charles singing into the back of a microphone. I loved that man. Great music and comedy ta boot.

Yeah, this is really sad.

For some reason, and you'll have to forgive me for this, I thought of this as soon as I read the headline:

I bet he never saw it coming.

Is that not the most aweful thing ever. I don't know why it popped into my head, but it registers as one of the most distasteful things I have ever thought. I did have to give a guilty chuckle though. Shame on me.

Sad because he died, or sad because he was included in that God-awful movie? Go watch the ORIGINAL Blues Brothers, and pay him proper tribute. And this is indeed a sad day. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Am I perhaps too young and/or not American enough to know who he is? I saw it on the news but I'm afraid he doesn't ring any bells.

Regardless of whether you're too young to have known about Ray Charles in his prime, I find it amazing that so many people don't know who he is. I mean, from Pepsi commercials to the Vh1 Viewer's Choice awards 2 years ago I thought everybody knew this man.

And as happy as he looks in that picture is as happy as he was EVERYWHERE. The man is a legend, and an amazing loss to the world. I wouldn't be surprised if the sun got a little dimmer because he's gone. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

I just got back from a trip, so I just heard about this. It's really a shame, he was great man and a great musician. He was one those few who could sing the telephone book and have it sound amazing. RIP Ray.

It is ashame. He was a good guy. But maybe it was a good thing he died because maybe they'll stop airing all those DA** LOTTERY COMMERCIALS WITH HIM. I dont know if they are just in my area but I am so sick of them.
But it is sad he died.
