Why's it gotta be so sexy?

AND THE SCREEN IS BRIGHTER TOO!

Man, if this has taught me anything, it's that you should never buy a first gen. Nintendo handheld. The DS is an ugly pig now :[ (it kind of always was, but I figured they just couldn't make it sexy for some reason). Getting burned as an early adopter sucks. What hurts the most is how much better the DS Lite screens are. I've always though my DS screens could be better :[

Ye Olde News.

I'm only posting that because I made this exact thread not too long ago :p

It does look sexy though. A lot less ungainly than the current DS model.

I love my current DS. I'll get this one for my g/f so she'lll stop jacking mine to play Nintendogs and Kirby. The size of the current one now makes my hands cramp a little if I play too long so there's no way I could hold a smaller one comfortably.

I agree about psp being sexier, and the roster of upcoming games is finally looking good.

But then I think about how every single game I've bought for the DS has made me go "wow this is the best game I've ever played"...

Lets just say that at this point I've had dreams about my DS. Easily the best purchase I've ever made
Mario Kart
Meteos
Kirby's Canvas Course
Trauma Center
Ouendan

I haven't even bought 1/4th of the games I want. I'm too poor :(

Finally looking good? It's been good for a while. I just picked up Maverick Hunter X for only 30 bucks (a budget title for the PSP) and it's GOD LIKE. Seriously, most fun I've had in...forever. And I've still got 3 modes to go, and two (really hard) Megaman Powered Up levels to beat. God I forgot how hard Megaman 1 was.

Not to say that the DS isn't good as well, but there's a reason PSP sales have slowly been overtaking DS sales in the US...not quickly, mind you, and it's still somewhat up and down, but it's definitely happening ;)

PS--GET ON AIM MORE.

I find it interesting that DS' are still outselling PSPs in Japan.

I don't. Neither do I find it surprising. The DS came out first and has a lot cookier games for it, which is what the Japanese fanbase flocks to.

Yes, but in Europe, they are neck and neck (PSP was winning when it first launched), and the PSP is only slightly behind the DS in the USA.

I know at Best Buy we have a 2:3 ratio, 2 DSs for 3 PSPs that come through.

We sell a lot more DS games though.

I would buy the DS if it would play my old game boy games like my gba sp does. Like for gbc and the original gameboy. I still play the tetris cartridge that came with my ORIGINAL old gray gameboy with the puke-green screen (oh how I like the green screen...).

The only problems I really have with my DS is that it can be uncomfortable to hold and such, and I don't think this new version would allieviate that problem for me, though I could be wrong. I'd have to try it for myself anyway, as I have weird tastes in what I find comfortable it seems (I prefer the feel of the GBA over the GBA SP, and the N64 controller over the GC controller).

Nintendo DS's WIFI network has far surpassed that of the PSP.

I agree that both are good machines.

PSP if you like features

DS if you crave gameplay

Not really...the DS's wifi network is still very limited and buggy. It IS however a step in the right direction. The PSP still has very workable TCP/IP stuff that is still owning up on the DS', plus the homebrew WiFi internet radio app is just killer. I expect when the PS3/PSP interactivity comes into play, a LOT more people are going to be getting PSPs. Why not--no longer do you have to buy those (somewhat) overpriced UMDs but you can stream your material right off your box at home. Or at least, that's what I've gleaned from the rumors on the PSP/PS3 media "HUB". It should also serve as an XBLive type of thing for the PS3, maybe the PSP too?

Hahahah. Sad, but true. The PSP does a better job of playing Gameboy games than the DS does.

the newest handheld system I own is the Game Boy. The big honkin' thing with the puke screen. It was when they released them with diff color cases but before they made them smaller mine has the clear casing.

I haven't had a handheld since the Gameboy color, I think I'm gonna wait till the next handelds come out to get one, hopefully they have stable online multiplayer support by then.

Why must it be so bland? So boring? Such unimaginative styling...
However... is that a compact flash slot I see? you can buy a microdrive like the ones in mp3 players and have up to 6 gig storage if it is. How very nice it must be to have that versus an SD card slot.

Yes there is--the game slot. You can get a converter that you use to put flash in and load homebrew etc.

Also, there's already stable online Monoxide...so I dunno what you're waiting for. Hell, I've browsed the internet(s) on my PSP and the DS is getting an Opera-esque browser.

Why in the world would they make a browser for DS? The PSP one is slow enough as it is!

Actually, I could see it working out alright. The PSP one isn't bad, but it's definitely not my first choice :p

Man, I'm so behind the times when it comes to handhelds. All I got is the original Gameboy. You know, that massive gray cinder brick with the green screen?

I remember back in high school when the Gameboy Pocket was all the rage, I brought my Gameboy (which was already in a dying state. Didn't even have a battery cover and I needed to use aluminun foil to get the batteries to work) to class and started playing it during study. The vietnamese kids (they were EVERYWHERE in San Jose at the time) who had Gameboy Pockets saw my Gameboy and one of them snatched it out of my hands and went "Dude... check this out! This guy has the original Gameboy! Look how big it is!" Of course, when he did that, the Gameboy turned off because the batteries fell out. Poor poor Gameboy :(

Yeah but opera rocks. It runs fast on slow cell phones, I'm sure it will be fine on the DS. It makes me want to get one instead of a PDA ;)

You have to use a converter...that means there is no slot for flash storage.

I bought a DS with mario 64DS or whatever it's called. Then I saw my friend had a PSP and was playing Untold LEgends. He also showed me Spider Man 2. I promptly returned my DS and sold my game to gamestop.

found a store with a PSP the next day.

Now I love my PSP... it's the only system with fully supported online gameplay (with guns...aka Socom FTB). the DS just has mario cart... which is probably fun, but still.

Plus I own 4 movies that I can watch on the go!

Only problem is a lack of RPG's.

Uh...no... The DS has a ton of games with online out (though I just see a lot of them in passing, mario kart being of course the biggest one right now) and has quite a few awesome games. Everytime you make a post about the DS vs PSP you make up some stupid, opinionated tripe on how the PSP is so much better than the DS blah blah the DS has nothing blah blah. Right now the main thing the PSP has up on the DS is homebrew...quite a bit of homebrew in fact. But the DS is still holding it's own.
