Just voted for the first time. London Mayoral Elections, London Assembly and European Parliament.
I almost didn't do it, because of my own issues. Today being one of those days where my personal problems kinda made me think 'who gives a crap about the rest of the world?'
But, I did. Because women died so that I would be able to.
Which brings me to my point. We've had a number of threads thanking those who fought for us in WW2, and now I would like to express my thanks for the women who fought to allow me to be considered an equal human being.

Even if things looked hopeless, I'd vote anyway, just so that if the country is governed by a bunch of closed minded fanatics who hate women, gays and immigrants, at least I'd know I won't have any blood on my hands.

The UK is in the European Union. It is not, however, in the European Monetary Union, hence them using the British Pound rather than the Euro. There's debate over whether they should join the EMU; some people hold on to traditions, while others are afraid of an economic downfall.
