Anybody like pencils?

If so, what thickness? I tend to use #2 as they're the most common, but I've been hearing good things about 2.5...anyone have any experience with them? As for brands, I prefer Dixon Ticonderoga.

Word is that mechanical pencils are gaining popularity lately too, but I usually stay away from them. I've found that the regular wooden ones give a lot warmer line than the new mechanical ones. Thoughts?

For just writing stuff out or whatever, I'm a fan of mechanical pencils (despite not owning any). For art stuff, however, I'm liking these woodless graphite pencils I got. I don't really care about brand, but as for type, the only kind I really don't like are the super-light ones.

Mechanical pencils are for those who think they are hardcore.

I only like mechanical pencils. Preferably those made of metal. Although I have used some good HQ plastic ones, as well, but they weren't mine.

My current mechanical pencil is Pentel s445. It's all metal, and I know for a fact some people hate mech pencils like that, preferring some other material for a firm grip. However, I have been happy with this. It's nicely balanced, like a good sword, so it's not bothersome to use.

That's my favorite.

So comfy, strong as hell, and looks good. I have the 0.5mm variety.

I stick with HB. Less faffing around with expensive pieces of carbon.

Me, I prefer the latest model from MetalStorm: the X-2000 CelluLite. It's got all the latest features, including retractible metal nib, laser sight, scope with 1500X zoom and a single-bullet thirty-ought-six clip with silver-plated titanium hull. It cost a bundle, but it's worth it.

.3mm pencils are amazing for drawing. Not so great for shading.

I stick with my .5mm variety standard issue walmart pencil. Beautiful stuff.

standard HB pencils are the best and most versitile.

H's suck, and Darker B pencils can be messy.

I pretty much like any mechanical pencil

Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencils are the bestestestttt. Actually I don't really care about brand just as long as they're not mechanical pencils.

Mechanical pencil points have a strange tendency to break on me and are generally inferior quality lead.

Bic mechanicals. I'm too lazy to buy a pencil sharpener so I switched to mechanical (and bics are the cheapest).

I like mechanicals. No sharpening required. But the erasers often suck and come loose, which drives me bonkers.

use the quicker clicker, chew. erasers are great and are held in by a little metal clip that makes sure they don't come out (and means you can use far more then a normal mech by moving it up and you wear it down), and are replaceable. i've never had trouble finding replacement,s either, they're sold everywhere.

I use the standard, wooden #2 generic pencils. I don't like the shaved wood that feels too smooth. When writing, it doesn't have enough darkness in comparison to coarse, for lack of a better word, shaved wood.
