Stargate SG-1 Vs. Stargate Atlantis
2006-02-20, 8:50 PM #1
After several debates between friends and on sites and stuff I shall open this philosophical question to Massassi..

Stargate SG-1 or Stargate Atlantis?

Which is better?

I personally used to think SG-1 was amazing with O'neil, but this season without him, Easily in my opinion Atlantis is better.

Discuss.

They're both ok, but IMO they really need more convincing plots. I watched a lot of Atlantis and some of its episodes just flat out suck.

Atlantis > SG-1

Why did RDA leave anyway? Did he pull a Farelle (Jadzia Dax)?

hehe no. Richard Dean Anderson who from now on will be addressed as MacGyver quit because he wanted to be there while his Daughter was growing up. Since they live in LA and SG1 films in Canada, he wasnt able to spend a lot of time with his family and that's important to him so he quit.

I thought it was his son who was messed up. E.g. joining a gang, military school level of messed up. Deliquent.

SG-1 is a far superior series, but Atlantis is still entertaining.

I really don't know. I'd have to say SG-1, because it's got 8 good seasons to back up season 9, which I think has been kind of weak, at least in the stand-alone episodes. I do like where they're going with the Jaffa and Ori storylines, however. And concerning Atlantis, I think they need to stop turning Sheppard into an O'Niell clone. He has the potential to be a great character if the writers would just stop giving him so many damn one-liners and leave the comedy to McKay.

I don't watch Atlantis at all. I think there's only so much you can do with an idea, so I'm sticking with SG:SG1.

An idea? Judge atlantis is in a whole new galaxy with totally different characters and storylines. It's actually quite good.

Battlestar Galactica is getting very good as well. I thought it was stupid, then I actually watched a whole episode and I was like OMG Where did this show come from?

BSG > *

It's my favorite show at the moment.

I like both shows pretty equally. I've enjoyed season 9. It was a little rocky at the start, but I looked at it as an almost new show.

This thread needs a poll.

I like SG1 and Atlantis about the same.

Atlantis has potential, i think the wraith are the coolest enemy we've seen so far.

SG1 got a bit silly, but its still worth the watch.

I prefer SG1.

I'd probably pick SG-1, but I like 'em both.

I like all three (including BSG). The first half of the season, though, Atlantis was far better than SG-1. This half of the season SG-1 has been much improved.

Btw, does anyone else get tired of seeing Lexa Doig (Dr. Lam, Landry's daughter) getting screen-time in all these shows? She made an appearance in BSG last week too. Her acting makes me cringe.

they both have their merits.

SG-1 has like others have said, 8 years of backstory and the writers use that backstory years later to close a plot hole or tie up a loose end or use it to push a furutre episode further and I like how they have a continuity that they are sticking too, the addition of mitchle to the team to replace o'neill will take maybe another seaon to get completly used to him, but It's doable.

Atlantis is also off to a great start, we're learning more about the ancients who built the gate network and we're learning about alot of the technology that they used and how they were defeated by the wraith, we're also learning a bit about how and why they ascended. (something SG-1 is also covering.)

but the best part of atlantis has to be, MCKAY! he's clearly the best character of the show and he's Canadian to boot, so that just makes him even more kick ***.

I enjoy them both equaly though.

I never get tired of Lexa doig, I could do her all day...

And i agree Grant, McKay is awesome. A billiant actor, and the character is hilarious, and vital to atlantis.

SG-1, because it's got that big black guy with the gold thing on his forhead. He's entertaining. :)

Don't make me do it...

I'm going with SG1 on this on... I love that they killed Earth's flagship, Prometheus , to tell the truth I didn't believe they would do it...

well, prometheus was not really much of a capital ship really, it was more of an experimental test bed for new weapons and technologies, once they worked out the kinks on the prommy, they'd transfer the newest versions of the technology to the new deadalus class ships.

The prommy was only called into action so many times because of the fact that earth has practicly no fleet, they DID have 2 deadlus class and the Prommy, but now it's just two deadalus class ships. (rumour has it a Russian ship will bea appearing soon before seaosn 9 ends.)

ah vala... apparently...

she's been sent accidently to the Ori Galaxy where she decided to keep a low profile, somehow she also become pregnant, through imaculate conception she claims, her child is a powerful prothet and has apparently been created by the Ori to age faster.

Her daughter apparently leads the invasion of the Milkyway at the last episode of season 9+start of season 10 and vala is torn because she loves her daughter, but everyone else wants her dead because she's leading the Ori cause, Vala being her mother ofcourse gets a first class seat aboard her daughters flagship and thats how she's bought back to the MW.

she's suppose to join SG-1 after the invasion of the Ori as a regular member of the cast, an SG member or base personel, who knows, she's sure to have valuable intel on the Ori from her experiances there.
