question about Halo and the demo
2004-06-12, 9:54 AM #1
I dled the Halo demo and I noticed the SP level got kind of choppy at times. I know I pass the recommended computer requirements. Is the full version SP choppy too? I'm probably going to buy it today after I get my car back from having my new CD players installed(yeah!).

What kind of graphics card do you have?

If you have a s***ty VIA chipset like i do, then you can forget about good performance.

As of now, I have $40 in my radeon 9800 fund. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

And the fact that it requires one to run that game well at a high resolution considering the sub-par quality of its visuals just goes to show how poorly a port job it is.

It takes an uber system to run it smoothly. Thankfully, when my X800 Pro rolls in in ~a month, I'll be able to boast that uber system.

Radeon 9600 XT

/hugs

Uhh, Halo on the PC never lags for me. Even online. Don't go by the demo, the demo lags for anyone.

What SAJN said. I have a 9800 Pro, and the demo was really choppy at times. And by the way, does anyone here still play Halo MP? I stopped a while ago, when I got Morrowind, but I've been itching for some good multiplayer lately.

I only have the demo, and I decided a long time ago after getting it that I would never EVER play slayer. Mainly becuase I'm not great at it as is. Don't get me wrong, I can play quite well, but I'm no God. And people in Slayer just spam the hell out of guns. CTF is only slightly better. At least there I have backup... Occasionally... I rarely play it because it's a test of frustration trying to find a game that's good that doesn't have effing idiots running all over the place. And of course, it's always the good games that are usually up for one round before the host closes down.

I tried the demo. It did get really choppy at times (On a Radeon 9800 pro) I was running at 1600x1200 though.

The thing that made me stop playing halo was the horrible FOV. It was about 30 degrees or something. It always seemed like you were at 2x zoom or something. It bugged me no end.

Darth, WTF? They didn't port the game exactly, other wise it would be worse than Halo Xbox.
I have never heard of an Xbox + TV configuration that could out preform a PC + Monitor. When I was playing Halo for Xbox, I was having troubles seeing people to shoot.
So, HaloPC doesn't suck

And, back on topic, I think I had a problem with the demo too. The full version isn't so choppy. But I suggest not installing HaloPC, but buying the game and installing Halo Custom Edition. It has better shader technology than the original. www.cortana.org if you want it.

I am playing Halo on my Radeon 9800 n/p, runs just splendid. Do you mean choppy like vertical sync is off or something? I never did play the demo, but it is probably just buggy.

Also I found out that that game cant be run with anti aliasing on, at least with my card, but I am OC to Pro speeds anyway. It is just that its a really DX9 intensive game, which kills the best of todays vid cards.
