Anybody like protestors at funeral?
2006-02-21, 2:06 PM #1
..becase Anti-anti-gay protestors will be there.

Seriously, I don't care if gay people marry, or if they protest, but at a funeral?

And they're protesting AGAINST protesting?

Hmm, seems like they're not so much protesting as shielding people from protesters. I think that's cool, actually.

It's one thing to protest gays, but to do it at the funerals of soldiers that had nothing to do with the issue and to express joy at their deaths in front of their loved ones is despicable.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Good for them. The anti-gay group's chpice to protest at military funerals is completely ****ed up. They are showing no respect to the family, who just lost a loved one.

The church, Westboro Baptist Church, is not affiliated with a larger denomination and is made up mostly of Fred Phelps' extended family members."

^What?!
lets see here: "Terrorism is good becasue it is our punishment for letting gay people in our country. atleast thats what my family thinks."

It sounds to me like they (bikers) are protesting for America not for gays. but then again CNN is not first in my mine when I think of unslanted facts.

but I think they are doing the right thing (the bikers). I don't agree with homosexuality, and the church should never support it. But come on! protesting at a soldiers funeral because it is God's punishement on the U.S. is bunk total bunk.

What next, "the Hollocaust didn't happen but it should have because the Jews killed Jesus. the scriptures are clear!!!11"

I saw a news article on Phelps a while ago and they're pretty despicable. They're the type of twisted Christians that take only the negative intrusive aspects of their religion and forget the important bits like compassion, good will, helping thy neighbour etc.

I don't know what I'd do if I was at a family member's funeral and someone turned it into a circus. I'm surprised some of these idiots haven't been beaten yet. It's the ugly side of free speech at the end of the day. Nice to see there're benevolent strangers out there willing to help the families though.

I saw this earlier today and I applaud what those bikers are doing. People protesting funerals need to be gutted.

Good for the bikers. While they're at it they should just take their bikes and run over the protestors. I'm sure if that kept happening to them at every funeral they tried to protest at, they'd stop pretty quick.
Life is beautiful.

I'm glad to see this. Wish it didn't have to be necessary.

I don't understand. How did they connect people dying in Iraq to homosexuals in the country?

But actually, now that the thread hasn't been closed.

They did this at the funeral of an acquaintance of mine. About 15 Marines (mostly retired, but still scary) showed up and the protesters left, IIRC.

Also, the bikers only come if asked or given permission by the families. They don't just show up and start chanting.

Most of the families they help out appreciate it a lot.

I don't understand this. The bikers are there to protect the funeral from the protesters... but what are the protesters even protesting against? Homosexuality, or the war? Why does that belong at a soldier's funeral? Gay people aren't even allowed in the military. If this 'war' is God's way of punishing America for being gay, then they should just sit back and let it happen.

But more importantly, how come buttwipes like this Fred Phelps never get assassinated?
2006-02-22, 4:30 PM #19
Fred Phelps likes to hate people. His idea of a christian god is one that's vengeful and likes to smite a lot. They believe that since homosexuality is legal in the US, the entire country is immoral, hated by God and doomed to hell. US soldiers fight to protect their country and therefore homosexuality, therefore they must be in hell.
C'mon, these are the same guys who reckon Mr Rogers is in hell for not being vocal enough on the "evils of homosexuality" on his TV show for kids.
They're vindictive hateful little ****s who basically believe that only they (Phelps' family and friends) will be going to heaven because no one else is good enough.

Why are they against gays dying? Do they want a race of imortal homosexual WARLORDS?!

Because his followers would then elevate him to the status of martyr and cite the assassination as evidence of the dreaded gay conspiracy? I don't know.

That's funny, because it isn't even legal in a lot of states.

So what are their aims? To get homosexuals rounded up and exterminated? That's been done; didn't work.
2006-02-22, 5:39 PM #26
Really? People still get arrested and punished for consentual gay sex? Wow.

I think that they're ostensibly doing it to warn people that they're going to hell. In reality I think they just like to hate people.
2006-02-22, 5:47 PM #27
Uh, well it's not like anyone does anything about it. It's just not legal in some states. Hell, oral sex is illegal in a lot of places too, but good luck stopping that.
2006-02-22, 5:49 PM #28
Fred Phelps is on this page.

I saw that page last summer, and it's the first time I learned about Fred Phelps and how much I hate the guy.

(Language warning...he may have weird views of Christianity, but he has no problems with name calling).

Uh, pretty sure I'd hate him just from seeing picture and not even knowing who he was.

Reminds me of that time when a teenaged kid go beaten to death because he was gay.

Wait, here's the kicker....

They protested against him, at his FUNERAL. With tasteful signs like "He deserved to die!" and "He's burning in hell now!".

Yeah.
The tired anthem of a loser and a hypocrite.

I'm pretty sure sodomy is illegal in a lot of states, and that includes oral sex and anal sex, so yeah, it's illegal.

I still don't see the difference between the 1960's and now....

When I see news interviews about homosexuality, they say, "I definitly don't want my daughter going to school with them gays".

Back then it was against Civil Rights. I can't tell the difference. I'd be suprised if anyone could.

This is one of those "WTF America?" eras. I'm not gay, but I also don't give a **** if my children goes to school with anybody.

Besides pedophiles.

And rapist.

And...you get the idea.

Holy crap that site is horrible!

Choice and the ability to make mistakes is fundamental to Christianity! Ever since Adam and Eve! ARRRRRG!!

I don't mind if fairly elected officials use their moral compass (be it relgion or anything) to guide their decisions, but I believe firmly in the freedom to choose your religion and worship any way you want.

(Also, those who want to force everyone to be Christian want to do the exact same thing that the Muslims of old used do)

Dammit! That's it. Someone get this guy, blindfold him, put him in the back of a truck. I'll steal one of those horse trailer things, there's a bunch of farms down the road from where I live. Some else needs to get the keys to the zoo and Yankee stadium.
Get some lions...
Get some fundamentalists...
And then we'll have a little show. Colleseum style. It's been a couple of millenia, but I think we can figure out how to make it interesting again.
