A Scanner Darkly

Finally, after about a year since the teaser came out we have a full trailer:

http://www.apple.com/trailers/warner_independent_pictures/ascannerdarkly/trailer2/

Having not read the story, I think I'd just see it for Downey and the rotoscoping.

WTF, July?! It was supposed to come out March 1st :(

I want to see this.
Think while it's still legal.

I think it looks amazing, and I can't wait for it to come out.

I'll have to watch the trailer when I get home, though.

I'm pretty excited for this.

Philip K. Dick is my favorite author. That said, I've never seen a decent interpretation of his work into a film. Visually, this film looks interesting, but Keanu Reeves annoys me. I'll probably go see it, though.
2006-02-22, 8:21 AM #6
So someone does like Dick. :p

Sorry. :-/

It looks pretty damn cool. But why must Keanu Reeves be in it?

Couldn't they find another actor?

Woah, that looks sweet.

Keanu Reeves was good in Speed, The Devil's Advocate, The Matrix Films, and Constantine, why does everyone hate him. :(

I'm going to have to go ahead and agree with SAJN here. Reeves really isn't a bad actor. It's just like how people love to rag on George Lucas saying he's a bad director.

Because people find it difficult to forget Bill and Ted.

That would be like someone saying Sean Penn doesn't deserve any of his acting accolades because they simply "can't forget about Fast Times at Ridgemont High."

Right, and they would be wrong, wouldn't they (in reference to Reeves)? :p

Saying Keanu Reeves is a bad actor because he was in Bill and Ted (and sucked) is foolish. Being unable to look past his previous mistakes in order to see his current work in a fair light is stupid.

He's not the best actor, but he's not as terrible as people say. in my opinion.

I just saw Blade Runner last week. Visually, the film was excellent. But I felt the pacing was too slow and most of Dick's most interesting (and important) ideas were omitted.

too right!!!

Also Minority Report and Total Recall weren't all that bad a transistion from book to film, not amazing by any means but pretty reasonable.

I've been keeping track of this film since I saw the trailer last year some time during the summer or something, the sooner it comes out the better.

As for Keanu, he's not all that bad, just needs to get away from the dumb sounding, clueless characters he keeps playing, not that they aren't without a certain amount of depth of character but he needs to do something totally different.

He was just right in The Matrix, and plain ol' sucked in Reloaded and Revolutions. It's like he just stopped caring or something.

As for this, it looks just great. :)
DO NOT WANT.

I REALLY want to see this. Saw the trailer a while ago, looks awesome.

[Side note: Radiohead was going to do the score for the film, but they turned it down because they were busy with their album.]

the style of the film is interesting, is it animated or just heavily filtered after filming? cause it looks awesome.

No, the Wachowski brothers wrote the second two, some woman in like, Oregon wrote the first one, they stole it, she sued and won like $54 million or something.

Wachowski brothers (Now Brother and sister!) are just stupid.

The filmed the entire movie as a real film, then did over the entire movie in cel shading.

ACTUALLY.... they filmed the movie normally, and then had artists draw over frames and then used "rotoshop" to rotoscope the movie. Or so says this wired article.

Didn't check the trailer yet though, but Blade Runner was sexbox.

The s***ty rotoscoping. If I wanted to watch a cartoon, I would watch a cartoon. If I wanted to watch a movie, I would watch a movie. I don't want to watch both simultaneously.

It looks like s**t.
