BSR has some competition! :p

I don't see how the gameplay in a mmo version of Star Trek would work out. That universe isn't really known for solving conflicts with violence. I also can't imagine crawling around the jeffery tubes while trying to kill level 1 space rats with a phaser.

Don't care. Graphics don't impress me, and I think Star Trek sucks.

I just looked into it, and apparently you cannot play as a Klingon. Two thumbs down from me

looks like it requires way to much cooperation for a MMORPG.

BSR's is better than that.

No waii! The only good Star Trek games that were good were the elite force games.

I don't think the mass STO players will be going into this for the "combat" scenarios. They'll be going into it for the intellectual growth in problem solving.

Besides, I look forward to conversations like this:

Quote:
Picard: "Number one, will you set course for starbase 227. I'll join you on the bridge shortly."
Riker: "Wait a minute. You've been declared dead. You can't give orders around here."
Data: "If we are to adhere to the exact letter of Starfleet regulations, then, technically, sir, you have been declared a renegade. In fact, I believe you are facing 12 counts of court-martial offences. You cannot give orders either, sir."
Picard: "That's quite right, and as I'm supposed to be dead, I'll go and get some sleep and, Mister Data, I suggest that you escort Commander Riker to the brig."
Data: "Aye, sir. [Picard leaves] .. This way, sir."
Riker: "Data, he was joking. You know that, right ? .. Data ?"

That would be quite a community, unfortunately it may not pick up. I look forward to see how it turns out, though.

Well, there is the whole part about living out star trek fantasies. Considering the graphical environment, that alone will appeal to the majority of the die-hard fans.

They ran a bunch of statistics awhile back which can be found at startrek.perpetual.com

It was really quite interesting.

Just like SWG, I'm sure it won't live up to the hipe. But as someone who grew up on TNG...it won't matter to me. :)

Couldn't be more eloquent.

As an MMORPG, it's already an underdog. ST is popular for a very small population, and they would have to make something amazing to even scratch the devoted population of MMO players of something like WoW.

Dude..

Trekkies out number all of us.

Ahem! The 25th Anniversary game will always have a special place in my heart. But Elite Force was quite fun. I also had a good time with Klingon Honor Guard, even though it flopped.

That looks great to me, i'm a die hard trekkie.

Just look at my name. (V'ger = star trek the motion picture).

Bridge Commander turned out to be subpar. But with what the community is making, damn, they're pushing the engine to the limits.

Aww no combat in STO? I wanted to take on the Dominion single-handedly in a Sovereign-class starship.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Actually, there is combat in STO. In fact you can follow the Security/Tactical skill line. Traditionally, the focus will not be on combat, though I predict they'll have an overall story arc that allows for quite a bit of it. Maybe even an outright war like we saw with the Dominion in DS9. However, it'll mostly all be PvE...for now anyway. Though, they'll be oportunity for PvP in the holodeck.

Oh yeah, and their first planned expansion is the Klingon expansion. There's suppose to be a way to "transfer" your character over to the Klingon faction after the expansion is released.

it does look quite impressive, I haven't played any MMO for more than about 30 mins but I might be willing to give this a go depending on the type of gameplay it comes up with.

As for trekkie games, elite force was good but DS9: The Fallen came out at about the same time and everyone seemed to miss it as it was caught up in the spotlight generated by Elite Force.

It was a combined FPS/3rd Person adventure game and was pretty good fun.
People of our generation should not be subjected to mornings.
