Put the mic on long wires and hid that within the place you are monitoring, and find a better place for the bulk.

Laser harp, you say... that would actually be relatively easy to build. A few laser pointers, a fog machine, and a some light sensors wired into a synthesizer board...

Yeah, there are many "build a laser harp" FAQs on the net but they seem like hebrew to me... and where the hell would I get laser anyway...

... or fog, even though there are some harps which doesn't seem to require fog... or then I'm just blind.
