They didn't almost die.

It is crazy to see what people do because they're not getting enough speed...and Americans complain about gas prices.

Most Americans are such bad drivers they shouldn't be allowed over 65.

Have you been to mexico?
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

HAH! That was GOLD. Oh my god, the totally empty highway followed by ROWS of cars made me giggle histarically. Holy crap, tha'ts hilarious. Kudos to them.

Awesome!

Although..I'd be pissed because I'd be with the group of guys doing 80mph that had to slow down to 55... :o
woot!
2006-03-01, 8:14 PM #13
Cool idea, although it doesn't really show that the speed limit should be raised. If they rasied it to 75, then everyone would start going 80-90, and process would repeat.

That's in Atlanta. That film was in the CampusMovieFest. It came in 2nd place for it's school in the documentary category I believe.

I hate that road............

They really do need to raise the "limits" though, especially since flow of traffic routinely gets 70+ on roads still marked at 55. I've had flow of traffic hit 95 on the Florida Turnpike.

I didnt know places still had 55 mph speed limits on the highway. Its all 65 around here and 70 in some places. However it is 50 (and rightfully so) certain places like the bay bridge and through the caldecott tunnel.
2006-03-01, 9:53 PM #17
That's cool. No, the speed limits on highways shouldn't be increased, they should be removed altogether.
2006-03-01, 10:21 PM #18
If I was on my way to work and that made me late, I would've followed them and wooped their asses.. that is not the right way to get a message across, blocking the freeway in that manner is dangerous.. especially with all the traffic behind them.

dumb ****s

but hey, that's just me ;)

but no I dont think speed limits should be raised, people can't handle it as it is.

This just goes to show what a bunch of ***holes everyone else is. The damn speed limit is 55 and when you go faster, you make it dangerous. Just everybody go the damn speed limit. Petition to raise it, fine, if you think you should be going faster, but I'm always the guy who is going 65 in a 65 zone trying to pass some grandma going 60 in the slow lane, as she SHOULD, and some guy going 80 almost rear-ends me and flashes his birghts and honks at me like I need to speed up and get out of his way. Sorry bud, flash your brights and swerve all you want, I'm not going to speed.

I usually follow the speedlimits on the freeway too but if the flow of traffic is going 75.. I'm going 75. Gotta maintain that flow, not doing so just backs things up and thats when you see large accidents and traffic jams.. semi's are like 75% of that problem.

Well that would be your own fault for leaving for work so late that you had to speed to get there on time.

That was a cool idea and they succeeded very well, I have to say.

I bet the people going to the other direction also wondered a bit what was going on.

I hardly ever pay attention to my speed, or the speed limit. I just kinda look around, and judge what I think is an appropriate speed based on the surroundings.

The more I travel, the more I realize Americans are actually pretty good drivers relative to people in other countries. Visit Beijing (where the right of way is determined entirely by who wants it the most) or Cairo (where lane markings aren't just treated as suggestions, they're studiously ignored) someday, and you'll see what I mean.

Pedestrians on the interstate? They're not supposed to be there anyway..

I'm at school, so I couldn't watch the video with sound (and I didn't watch it entirely). But did they intentially block all lanes? That is not civil obedience. The left lanes are there to overtake others. If you don't want to overtake anyone, stay the **** off there.
Sorry for the lousy German

I heard about this guy who was visiting (Delhi) for the first time. He got into a taxi that was doing pretty standard Indian driving, and he was shocked. He asked the driver "Do you even know what those lines on the ground are for?". The driver replied "No, sir. I think they're something the British left."

It may not be a true story, but it certainly could be.

Yeah, I live near Atlanta and have to drive that sometimes.

You literally can be killed if you go the speed limit on it - but I think their logic is if they raise it from 55, people would just go that much faster over.

Example: 55 before -> 65
People would drive: 70 before -> 80 now
2006-03-02, 5:58 AM #32
There's a difference between going the speed limit and going the speed of the traffic. Can't view the resulting mayhem yet, but it sounds like if there were cars around going faster, they were driving dangerously. It's stupid to drive 20 miles an hour below everyone else just to not break the law.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

I just saw the whole thing. Driving at the speed limit wasn't what made the whole thing so dangerous. It was them blocking the whole motorway that made it dangerous (and those who just had to overtake them somehow).
Sorry for the lousy German

Not to mention the fact that with the line of cars they were creating, they wouldn't know if there were emergency vehicles behind them and keeping back.

it's not the fact that they blocked the whole highway by doing the speed limit or the fact that the speed limit is only 55. it's dangerous because people who are following them at 55 are freaking out and will do stupid things to pass them. it's the people who are dangerous not the speed limit. although i do agree the speed limit should be raised significantly.

a couple of guys did this in ontario on the 401 between kingston and belleville (~150km distance) where it's only 2 lanes each direction. the lineup of cars before they were pulled over by the police was tens of km long. they were actually pulled over and ticketed for mischief for doing the speed limit.

i just recently started driving the speed limit. i used to drive at 140km/h hitting 150 or 160 (and once 170) on a daily basis. now i drive 100. what a difference!!! i feel like i can get in the back seat and rumage around for a cd and get back in the front seat and keep driving. everything seems so slow.
i've increased my gas mileage by 1/3!! yes 1/3. and it only takes an extra 8 to 10 minutes to get to work or home (a 90km commmute).

Darth, you talking about KPH? cause 100kph isn't that far from 55 mph

lol, why would it have anything to do with me leaving for work so late... it has nothing do with that.
