Looking for some computer questions
2006-03-08, 2:23 PM #1
As odd as it may sound, I was kind of wondering if any of you here who know a good amount of computers might be willing to just ask some questions for me (preferably that you know the answer too) so I can check up on my knowledge, and see what kinds of things I need to learn more about.

I definitely don't claim to know everything, but I am fairly confident that I know a good number of things.

Really, the questions wouldn't have to be for me, they could just be questions for anyone to answer, so anyone can answer any question (kind of like a public quiz, where anyone can ask and answer.)

Though it would be nice if people put the answers in spoiler tags when trying to guess the answer.

It could be a good thread for everyone to get involved in, and it'd be a good way to test people's knowledge as well.

Any takers?

A bit is only one "1" or one "0" in the total overall set of 8 1s and 0s that make up the a byte.

Most likely nothing, actually. It takes a very large magnetic force to flip bytes on a platter, and chances are an average "large magnet" won't cut it.

Name three places programs can manifest themselves in order to start on boot.

Right, right, and innovative, but wrong. There's a thing you can run and see and then check and uncheck anything that starts up on boot.

I would say the fact monitors rarely contain TV tuners is a fact even more fundamental.

Basically, millions of transistors and capacitors are put together to form a RAM chip.

Each capacitor will either hold a charge, or maintain no charge. Each capacitor is bascially one bit (of the total 8) that make up one byte. If the capacitor holds a charge, it's the same as if you were looking at a 1 in the binary form of a byte, and if there's no charge, it'd be the same as a 0.

So basically, 00000001 = 7 capacitors that hold no charge, and 1 capacitor that holds a charge.

Zloc got mine.

@Emon: Yeah, but I'd prefer using msconfig to editing my registry. Both are options though.
