The country that gave the world such risque comic acts as Benny Hill, the Two Ronnies and Little Britain has banned Australia's new "bloody hell" tourism ads from television because they are too rude.

I remember hearing that you're called Poms because British immigrants used to arrive on boats with lots of pomegranates on board. The fruit was eaten for its Vitamin C which protects against scurvvy. Aussies love abreviating things, so it was a short jump from pomegranate to pom.

Limeys, I have no idea.

Huh? He's S. African, I don't think he'd give a monkey's about tea!

"Limey" definitely comes from British sailors storing and eating a lot of limes to prevent scurvy.

I've heard Pom started out as a phrase used by Aussies who had settled there previously and was used as a name for the large influx of Brit convict immigrants otherwise known as Prisoners Of her Majesty or POMs.

i think that was a stupid idea, but it's not offensive. i sorta scratched my head on this.... so where the hell are you? that's supposed to make me go to aussieland?

first off, if you want me to go to aussieland, i want to see the chicks lose their tops... or at least look like they're thinking about losing their tops. secondly, i want to see more chicks, less dudes. in addition to the women, i demand koala bears--kangaroos are great, but that's just a small piece of the puzzle. finally, where the hell was the crockodile hunter and/or crockodile dundee?

in short, this campaign was ineffective.
