It's obviously a broken leaf spring.

Hmm, Im guessing the driver's side rear spring on a smaller (< 1 ton) Ford or a Dodge pick up truck?

Drivers' side leaf spring on a Toyota Tacoma. :)

Leaf springs are one part of a car's suspension system. It's basically several strips of metal fixed one on top of the other, but bent. Then they're bent back on themselves to provide some springiness.

That bottom one looks like rust got the better of it.

Nope. There's very little rust there, actually - it's road salt. I think it was an aftermarket leaf pack, and it fell apart.
