Why didn't this system take off? I just played a few games on my girlfriend's dreamcast and I fell in love with the system.

What happened?

Dreamcast lost cause it had worse advertising. That, and the PS2 was the cheapest DVD player available in Japan, so everyone in Japan bought it for that reason.
