Personally, I'd go with overly pessimistic, so then I could cheer her up all the time. :D

What about you peoples?

Pessimists don't get cheered up. We get pissed off.

Optimism, for I am pessimistic as hell.
nope.
2006-03-15, 2:15 PM #4
I would pick optimistic because I hate being around pessimistic people a lot. My current girlfriend is a pessimist and it's getting irritating.

Depressed people are really hard to live with. Optimist all the way.

I voted optimistic because I wouldn't want to be anyone someone who focuses on the negative. Although... people who are depressed often are alcoholics and I'm sure we all know what good a drunken female and a quick drive to a hotel can bring... :em321:

Amen.

Pessimists are more realistic, I'd say. I can't stand 100% optimists.
I had a blog. It sucked.

Well, I happen to find extremely cheery-happy-smiley people to be rather scary personally. It's hard to see any other emotion when it's masked by happiness, whereas it is easier to spot a glimpse of happiness in a darker, more down to earth person.

I'd rather have a cool, level-headed person. Extremes are no good. I suppose if I did have to pick one though, an extremely elated person would be better for my mental health. Then again, those types of people generally like to dance a lot, and dancing pisses me off.

I know too many pessimistic people. I'd want an overly cheerful girlfriend just to catch a break from everyone else I know.

Happy > sad.

Why would I want my girlfriend/fiancee/wife to be depressed?
woot!

You don't want a girl that's pissed and sad all the time. Trust me. I just got done with one. Happy is MUCH better.

This is a dumb poll. Although I wouldn't want someone who is naive, in the case of someone overly optimistic, I wouldn't want to have someone around who is always sad and depressed.

I picked the optimist though because happiness is good. Duh.

Optimistic. My GF can get pessimistic sometimes and it's a lot of work to get her thinking more positively again.

Yay! The poll means everybody likes me!
2006-03-15, 10:48 PM #20
Optimistic.

For I hate situations like

Me: Want some cake?
Her: Cake is Satan, woe is me, Santa Claus is dead.
Me: That means I can eat this cake all by myself!

Hey wait, that's not actually that bad... But I'd still prefer le optimism.

My last girlfriend was always pulling herself down, which in turn pulled me down. So I guess optimistic would be better.

There aren't nearly enough cross-mixes between these two extremes.
2006-03-16, 4:09 AM #23
If I had to choose, optimist.

But in life I am more of a realist, right in the middle.

I can't stand those overly-hyper, super-happy scream-in-your-face, rub-it-in, do-gooding, know-it-all, everything-will-be-okay, optimistic annoying people.

At least the pessimistic ones will usually leave you the **** alone if you offer them the same courtesy.

overly happy can be annoying, but it's usually more amusing and entertaining. I don't think I could deal with an overly sad/depressed and pessimistic person. I think they're even more obnoxious than overly peppy people because you can't even laugh at the sad ones.

Unless they're so sad you can't help but laugh at them.
2006-03-16, 1:16 PM #27
As long as it was honest, I'd rather have the overly happy person anyday.

Hmm...

I can get seriously short-tempered and grumpy, and overly happy, bouncy people tend to make that much worse (obviously more so if it's clearly fake). But then, spending too much time with anyone who's particularly sad will make me more depressed.

So, for my own mental health, I choose the happy one. Even though I know I'd hate them.

Yeah, but pessimists don't see reality any more than optimists do. They're both biased.

We have a new coworker who is WAY TO happy/optimistic. It's sickening. And she has such a high pitched soft voice.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.
