Pommy's poll 18: inspired by the weird chinese phrases from firefly thread

I guess the purpose here is to find out if han ze [chinese characters] really "evoke" their meanings. Yeah, it's a crappy test because it's based on pure gut instinct, but it'd be interesting nonetheless.

One of these characters has a good meaning, and one has a bad (they're both adjectives).

If you can already read han zi (or kanji for that matter), please try not to vote, and, DON'T POST the meanings of the characters here. And also please don't get your chinese (or japanese) friends to read them for you.

[*and don't go look them up :p]

*[Update: I'll post the meanings of the characters once 60 votes or 3 days have passed, whichever comes first]*

[FINAL: The poll has ended. You are still free to vote until someone closes it, but the answers have been revealed in this spoiler post ]

wooops, accidently answered A. It looks aggresive because it looks like a man with spears through his person.

B reminds me of that one character from the Blue Sun Corporation logo. Even though it isn't.

I voted for A. I think it has to do with how there's more hotizontal lines (which usually denote calmness) than vertical (which denote power), it has more curves, which tend to be 'friendlier' than hard lines, and it's simpler, a quality usually associated with happiness.

I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong in this case, however.

elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

The lines striking through A don't feel positive at all to me. I went with B.

A is spiky. B is like... not.

It is clearly B, because the right kanji is always the one that is a pain in the butt to draw.
[I may or may not recognize some parts of those characters from my studies. <_< >_>]

I can't really decide. My first impulse was A, but as many said the vertical lines are a little too violent. But B is too closed in for my liking. So I voted A.

to me (this is just a guess)

A. means "war"
and B means "colorful poem"

and that's the way i voted.

*that was just a guess, not what thay actully mean*
Laughing at my spelling herts my feelings. Well laughing is fine actully, but posting about it is not.

I saw A as positive myself. Less complicated, more space, or something like that..

A is less complicated and more freely moving. ANNNDD it's moving up towards the sky. So definately A.

A isn't an adjective when taken literally. You're not playing fair Pom... :p A is a trait, and is most decidedly a noun.

I thought you actually meant 'A' or 'B' instead of those pictures.... from which B sounds more positive to me.

From those pictures, A

B looks like someone is gonna get stabbed in the back.

All of the sameness in A scared me. B has more diversity, IMO.

B contains pi. Therefore, B is evil.

Well it can be used in a phrase that's an adjective of the same meaning [mei3 li4] so it's all good :p (The other adjective phrase [piao4 liang4 requires two characters, and if you only take one of those characters it doesn't really work as well .. this one when put into the adjective phrase means nearly the same thing and makes sense if you only take the first one :p

A looks nicer. B has part of it that appears to point downward.

Jack: "Why not!"

Ok, well turns out the majority of you are right haha

Character "A" is read "mei" by itself and means 'beauty'; it's often used in the phrase 'mei li' which means beautiful

Character "B" is read "chou" and means ugly (appearancewise).
