So, I was talking and making a fool out of myself while attempting to talk in Impi's mothertoung, to Impi, over whether or not I should ask this girl out. Usually I would say "Hell yes, screw Massassi's opinion, I'm going to!", but I'm in a special situation.

She is a foriegn exchange student from Germany.

She leaves at the end of this year, but I have taken a liking to her. The problem is, when she leaves, I strongly, strongly dislike long distance relationships. So now I seek the wise opinions of Massassi. Should I?

After the Singularity, distance will be irrelevant. I say go for it.

But get a 3-dimensional scan of her, and a DNA sample, just in case.

This is just me talking, but it seems like a bad idea to get involved with someone when all you have is a year. You have to think about how oyu are going to feel a year from now when she has to leave. If you stay as friends it won't matter where she is as you can still communicate long-distance, but if you're in a relationship things are going to get difficult and could even become painful.

I would pass on this one, simply b/c of circumstance, not b/c of the girl.

Don't take it so seriously at first. The long distance relationship is a problem for another day (if you even make it that far). Don't plan ahead so far right now, just go for it! If nothing else, then you could both still have fun and it would still be worth it.

Given the temporality of the situation, in your case, missing out is something that you could regret more than making a mistake.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Who even knows if you guys will still be together that far down the line? You're thinking too far ahead. Go ahead and ask her out, and IF the situation comes up, deal with it then, not before you even start dating.

I'd go for it. Page is right in that it will probably hurt a lot more in the end than if you just stayed friends, but once you've recovered, you'll have a year of great memories to smile back upon.

A serious relationship between the two of you will not work out in the long run. I'd advise that if you're going to date her, you shouldn't take it too seriously. Also, be honest with her about the fact that you don't expect it to last.

A buddy of mine dated a girl from Australia. She later moved here. They continued to date. He married someone else instead.

Perhaps the majority of you are right. My mind is too far into the future for this decision. But, it's only natural for me to think ahead before I do things...

I will ask her out then, and see where it goes from there. However, I am not going to say I know whether it will last or not. Maybe we will just last until she has to leave, maybe not!

Go for it, I didn't go for the aussie girl even though she was quite friendly too. And mistakes annoy you forever.

Then again, playing Red Alert and headbanging to the Hymn of the Soviet Union at the same time might have affected it somehow. :eek:
