I've seen it before - always amazing though. What makes this post good is the comments on the video at that site.

It´s horrible what they doing. Detonation an antomic bomb. Wonder if it´s safe to live there anymore. Bet not.

Oh, that awful government, always abusing their antomic powers.

Yeah, that was in India in '98. Actually pretty unnerving to watch.
nope.

Wasn't bomb testing banned in the 80's?

Radiate the soil... so that's how they make those huge vegetables.

Oh, and this is so much cooler: Tsar Bomba

DO NOT WANT.

The most funny, or stupid, video of an atomic bomb detonation was at the end of one TV document I saw. It must have been one of the earliest Chinese tests. First the nuclear explosion happened, and right afterwards a bloody cavalry entered full speed the detonation area. Some of the horseback soldiers had rifles, some had swords they were swinging in the air.

That was bizarre.

lassev: That would be the Chinese propaganda footage from Trinity and Beyond .

Really cool looking in my opinion. About as intimidating and post-apocalyptic as anything can get. I want a horse with a gasmask in Fallout 3! And I want to rattle a saber while tearing up the Wastelands on it! Especially if I get a terrific Moscow Symphony Orchestra soundtrack like the documentary does.

If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Would it be possible to make a 500 megaton bomb, detonate it, and finish off the planet?

I wish there was more and better footage of Tsar Bomba.

As for that, quite cool, except that the music makes it seem not genuine at times :p

are you kidding, that music was sweet. If you get the dvd, it has things like 3-d glasses scenes and scenes with the proper sound delay to the blast.

I think you're referring to the Nuclear Test Ban treaty, which was signed by 113 (I think) parties back in 1963. However, this only prohibits atmospheric or underwater testing, meaning that underground testing is still fair game.

And yes, that video is... wow.
