Has anyone ever had to establish a home in another country?

I am interested in leaving the United States when I am done with my undergraduate education (graduate if I decide to do that). Has anyone ever moved a long way and set yourself up without any family in that country? It seems like a pretty big transition.

Well, I'm working on a masterplan to flee Finland (actually, conscription), so I guess at some point I have to establish a home somewhere else. Even without masterplans I guess my ultimate goal is to move from Finland, though...

I have quite a few friends who grew up in Thailand and moved over here when they hit 18 or so. Their sucess seems to be mainly in holding on to eachother, even when they were all in different countries. So I'd recommend going somewhere either where you know people, or holidaying in various areas and seeing where you seem to fit in, before making the commitment to one place. Any ideas where you want to go?

Western Europe somewhere, I think. Or maybe New Zealand. Somewhere else where they speak English or Spanish and is fairly temperate.

I have the same problem as Hebedee. I'm thinking either Spain, Sweden, or France. I speak all 3 languages so...

Yeah, but I let my parents do all the setting up. And since you don't seem to be planning to move to a third-world country, I can't really give you much advice.

(Hint: Everyone speaks English. Some people just pretend not to!)

I'm going to leave England when I've finished a computer games course.

I may end up going to America, or Canada.

I WANTED to live in Finland or Sardinia, my favourite places, but its not possible in terms of career.

My brother is about to move to Equatorial Guinea this year.
The good thing is, I will probably get his car.

I moved to the Moon once. Only problems were the cheese wasn't very good, and the man in the moon called me mean things.
I had a blog. It sucked.
