Second tech-related thread today, I know, but this one's about a really good deal. HD-DVD internal drives for only 120 a piece, when the cheapest they were supposed to be at launch was FIVE HUNDRED. Get them while they're hawt.

Does HD-DVD need video cards that support HD-DVD? Furthermore, if you're not running your computer on a 38" HD TV, what benefit is there to have an HD-DVD drive in your computer?
the idiot is the person who follows the idiot and your not following me your insulting me your following the path of a idiot so that makes you the idiot - LC Tusken

Why? We'd just need to buy a new HDCP monitor. By the time I have one of those they'll be dirt cheap. Still nice find! I'm sure some one will find use for it. :)

No, and more space. Though granted these aren't the burners, some people here do have HTPCs.

DVD: 4.7 GB single layer 8.5 GB double.
HD-DVD: 15 GB single layer 30 GB double.

There's a 50% chance that this is a waste of $120.

Isn't Serenity coming out on HD-DVD?

That would make it totally worth it.

I'll wait for these things:
  1. A drive that can read HD-DVD and Blue Ray.
  2. Actually movies or software on one of the new media.
Sorry for the lousy German

Seeing as DVD writers dropped from £200 to around £30 over the course of two years, I don't see why technology like this won't follow suit.

I've no need to be on the cutting edge, tyvm. If I was earning a hundred kay PA, maybe I'd bother - but it'd be because I *could*, not because I wanted to or needed to.
"Whats that for?" "Thats the machine that goes 'ping'" PING!
Q. How many testers does it take to change a light bulb?
A. We just noticed the room was dark; we don't actually fix the problems.

I'm not saying you all want it, and I'm rooting for Blu-Ray, I'm just offering this helluva deal up for grabs.

i'm working on this now. honestly. an optical system for optical drives that will cater to both hd and blue ray. a little more research and i'll know if it's even feasible. so far it is.
