AGH! Death to SBC...

So I'm stuck on Yahoo Dial again for at least a month because SBC decided they had to do maintenance and diagnostic tests on the DSL line. Worse than that, they don't tell me that they're going to be taking the service down until AFTER they've done it, so my system went a whole day trying to make network connections and building up a whole mess of errors.

The connection was working fine though. I was getting great download speeds, and steady, albeit not the greatest upload speeds (capped at 16KBps). There's no need to be doing any diagnostics. Especially if it's going to take AT LEAST a month! They assure me that I won't be charged for the service for the ammount of time that it's down. I'm only wondering when they're going to tell me it's back up again... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/mad.gif]

That was sort of my point... Or it'll be a month late before they say it was available a month earlier. *shakes fist*

16kbs is horrible for DSL.

I'm currently uncapped, but my download speeds are routinely at least 160 kbs.

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

mine are routinely at least 300kbps... not magnificent, but for a standard it's great.

and of course, there's been the occassions where i get Mbps [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Well, at least they're giving everyone a 2 GB space for mail and whatnot. Too bad you won't be able to use it for a while.

That would be well and good if he lived in California. That would affect me but I use Adelphia cable. So I'm not really any better off [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Yeah. I wish I could switch to another DSL provider. We've got like nothing but SBC right now in this area (I think I'm still the only person in this city [you can't really call Griffith a city] to be using broadband internet access). We're supposed to be getting Verizon DSL, Comcast cable and like 2 other *local* DSL providers, but I've no clue when I can recieve services, and I would then need to change phone companies (unless I went with Comcast who just RAISED THEIR RATES AGAIN).
