Article confirming they're dumping StarForce for future releases. Anyone know if this will be retroactive? So maybe I could get a few of their previous infected titles?

I don't have an gripes against them except for Starforce. They make, for the most part, awesome games.

What else is bad about them? Seriously, other than starforce, they're a solid firm. They held out against EA and still continue to make quality titles.

The last 3 Prince of Persia titles, and Splinter Cell were great, Rayman used to be good when I was younger, and Spellforce was interesting, though not that outstanding. I'm happy that Heroes of Might and Magic V wont be released with Starbarf

From what I've read though, Rainbow Six: Lockdown was a step back from Raven Shield.

Since I am not familiar with StarForce, what is so bad about it? Isn't it just an anti-piracy system?

Wow

Anyway, good news. How long had Ubi been using StarForce?

It was console'ed. Basically, all the planning stages you saw in the earlier PC titles are gone, etc.

I'd say its more your typical squad-based shooter, rather than a strategic one like it used to be.

Sits on your system and, if you try to copy one of the StarForce CDs, it forces your system to reboot.

Or anything else it doesn't like, which could be absolutely nothing. It also has a rootkit which hides files with a certain prefix in the filename (even from Show Hidden Files) and some other nasty stuff. Basically it rapes your computer and leaves it vulnerable.

thank god for that. they realized that these days, people who know how these things work boycot games with oppressive DRM, and they also explain it to those who are only casual gamers, who then also boycot those games because they realise that the knowleagable people know what they are talking about and do the same.

so, in other words, oppressive DRM is much harder to use while still keeping sales.
