Caught a Pierce Brosnan flick, and noticed he said "pr-oh-gress". So, how do you say it?

Same here, but I voted "Pro-gress" in the poll because I want to sound like Pierce Brosnan. :D

Actually... in the quickness in which it's pronounced generally the noun form is said "Praw-gress" where the verb form is said "Pruh-gress"

Generally, I'd expect the verb to be 'pruh-gress' and the noun to be 'praw-gress'. No 'proh' anywhere.

I say "pR'GHress". But I'm a Wisconsin country boy and a freak, so...
2006-04-23, 3:01 PM #24
noun: prah gress (just like the short o in bomb... the 'ah' or 'aw' doesn't signify an AWWW sound, when you say it short it's just like 'bomb')
verb: pr- gress (or, more emphasized, pruh gress like Yecti said, for illustrative purposes only)

edit: dictionary.com says

noun form pronunciation can be prOgress, with a long O, or prahgress, with the 'bomb' O.

verb form = pruhgress, sorta like halfway between 'PRUHgress' and 'PROgress', i suppose.
