Would you hit a squirrel?

So I was in the park today, and these two squirrels were messing around throwing nuts at people, and I kicked one of them and then one of the cops on duty came over and started cussing me out over it...and I was wondering, why the double standard? What is it about squirrels that makes them so much "better" than us?

You shouldn't kick one unless you intend to eat it or use its fur for something. And like FG said, they are usually far too fast to be kicked. And for some reason I doubt they want to get kicked, either, thus avoiding it.

I ran one over with my car once by accident. I felt really bad, until 4 more ran around me before I even made it off the street.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

I also did that once, by accident. It also demonstrates their great velocity when running on ground. The creature didn't get hit by a tire, but its head hit the bottom of the car, resulting in instant fracturing of the skull. I learned this because I stopped the car and went to make sure it had died and wouldn't suffer needlessly afterwards, to be eaten alive by birds and larvae.

Mine met the front driver's side tire. And he stayed in the street for almost a week.
