Thrawn's Birthday: Aftermath
2006-04-27, 5:54 PM #1
Okay. So for Thrawn[numbarz]'s birthday, I gave him Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. We spent last night poppin' foo's and such. This morning I tried to start it up and nothing happened. So I restarted the computer in the hopes that it would be my friend again. No luck. Then I asked Overlord for help. He thought maybe it was the StarForce anti piracy program, because it has been known to mess up DVD drives. I downloaded a tool to remove a potential StarForce program. I tried it and it sayed that StarForce was not detected. So I gave up on that subject and have had no ideas since then. Please help me Massassi.

Does the computer detect a DVD in the DVD ROM drive?

Yes. Family Guy worked. (Kind of, it was nearly impossible to make buttons work and it was really slow.)

Does it detect the game though?

It's Thrawn's game! Why are you cappin' foo's?
I had a blog. It sucked.

Yes. If I eject GTA then put it back in it will come up with a little window that has buttons that say things like: "Play now" or "Uninstall San Andreas". If I click the Play now button the window closes as if it's about to start the game then nothing happens.

That's not starforce software then, and your DVD ROM is fine (which I was scared of, since you two do a lot of video editing and disk burning, which uses programs that screw up the DVD ROM drive sometimes).

Other than that, I don't know what's wrong with it. Sounds like a system issue to me :\

Okay, thanks everyone. I'll reinstall it and tell you what happens. And Zloc: Thrawn capped more foo's than I did!

well GTA:SA doesn't use starforce so it couldn't be that
eat right, exercise, die anyway

Once you get it working, you should get MTA so you can pop foos from all over the world! Well, not quite, because they've only released the racing portion thus far, but soon!

Do any other games work?
2006-04-27, 7:06 PM #20
Well, yes. But they aren't DVDs.

If you're using the onboard sound on an nForce-chipset motherboard try installing the Realtek driver for your sound instead. Worked out all the problems I had with GTA:SA, including not starting at all.

Also, try deleting the game setup info in your San Andreas User folder in My Documents, and restarting the game.

Yeah, reinstalling won't help if the setting files are preserved.

Thanks Shintock! It's working now! You may all go back to your homes. :)
