Now, let's go to the book. This is the original, the pre-movie novelization, released in 1976 (a time many Star Wars fans seem stuck in):
Page 104, 14th paragraph down (second from the bottom). Everyone read along now:
"Light and noise filled the little corner of the cantina, and when it had faded, all that remained of the unctious alien was a smoking, slimy spot on the stone floor."
Doesn't mean he didn't shoot first.
But yes, the DVD version looks best. It's a conciveable miss from two feet this time.

-On a related subject, turn to page 36, second paragraph down. Tarkin is explaining that the senate has been dissolved "for the duration of the emergency". Heh.

I was basing my vote on the 1997 vhs which had greedo shoot a split second before han flicked his head over and shot.

The original, as far as I can remember, didn't even have greedo "shoot"

No way did Greedo shoot first. You don't treat a smuggler like that and get off easy. Plus, he DID say he was going to kill Han. And Han was a bad man. Typical for someone in Skywalker's gang. Those guys were ruthless. I was there too. Saw it all. Damndest thing I ever seen, yep.

Heh. But I think it's pretty obvious that in the original version Han shoots first. And as far as the 97' version is concerend...I dunno. The whole Neo laser dodge thing just seemed a bit too cheesey.

While Han shooting first is definately cooler, the whole debate over it is nerdy and absolutely stupid and I'm amazed people still care about that.

Nerdy? Yes. But I'll jump on any opportunity to reference the comic that joked about the whole thing. Probably one of the most amusing SW comics I've read. (Although the tragic tale of George R. Binks rates high on the list)

[2cents]BTW han shot first, and I care becuse it makes greedo the worst bountyhunter in the universe if he can't make that shot accross the table, and if I recall he missed really bad too. It looses any amount of realism that the scene had. Oh and Han shooting first is much better, it sets up his character perfectly. He's not suposed to be a hero...yet.[/2cents]
