Good story. I'm going to bed now.
Think while it's still legal.

R&D my friend... R&D..

(that game btw, is one of the best Lucasarts ever made, behind JK of course)

Yeah, game was defintely underrated. Might not have been big on graphics, but the game was deep!

Yeah, great game.

Tiberium_Empire: You have to research to get newer technology faster.

The game was a lot of fun as Imperial. As soon as you're powerfull enough you just have to blow up planet after planet, until you've reached all objectives, even if it means blowing up your own planets, like Coruscant, too. The game should've had a galactic conquest mode.
Sorry for the lousy German

Certain characters have certain R&D abilities; either facility design, ship design, or troop design research. For instance, I believe Wedge Antilles can do ship design while Lando Calrissian can do facility design. Certain characters can do all three types of R&D (I believe Bevel Lemelisk for the Empire is one of them). In order to do R&D, you must select a character with R&D abilities, and have him perform a [ship/troop/facility] design mission on a planet with a [shipyard/troop training facility/construction yard]. Periodically, you will be informed that a new [ship/troop/facility] has been designed, and you can then build it.

I liked Rebellion as well, but got bored with it after awhile. I also never liked the whole setup of the game, such as sending Needa or Ozzel on a sabotage mission. How come an Imperial officer is better at sabotaging a refinery than a squad of Imperial commandos?! I'm a realism junkie I know, but that whole idea of sending officers out on spy missions and the like just really irritated me.

The man who believes he can and the man who believes he can't are both right. Which are you?

Ah, but on super fantastic LA-games you forgot TIE Fighter.

And if we go away from Star Wars there is always Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

well of course.. there were actually a lot of great games from Lucasarts around that era. Twas their Golden Aige, I guess. Hence I said "one of" the best games. There were a couple others that I liked equally well, but for different reasons.

What really annoyed the crap out of me was the fact that a "natural disaster" could wipe out somewhere around 5 mines and 5 refineries in one shot, almost totally destroying your upkeep.

As the others have said, but I'll also say "Recruit, recruit, recruit." The more you recruit, the more of these R&D guys you'll have.

Keep in mind also that assigning multiple personel to an R&D ship design mission will decrease the time between "inovations." So, in other words, it's better to have all of them at one place then spread out across the galaxy doing the same thing.
"The solution is simple."
