You seriously suck at life if you can't manage time well enough to knock out 2 hours of solid studying and homeworking at the end of classes and be done with it.

I avoid all these problems by not going to college.

I'm done college for the year, starts up again in August. Though now I'm working two jobs and working 62 hours a week combined. :(

You fail at getting the point. 31 unit hours a week in lecture does not include the extra studying you have to do. That translates to 13 hours of working on/going to school a day in a 7 day week.

Now, if you're talking about 31 hours total, well then we're only talking about 10 unit hours a week.

I used to work 12 hours a day, breaking much more of a mental and physical sweat than you do at college.

I kinda don't wanna hear it.

Been there too. I'm not saying taking a usual full load (15 units) is anywhere close to working 12 hours a day. If you took 31 units a semester, it would be. That's more than twice full time work.

I'm taking 18 credits now and its tough, but I'm doing well. How you manage your time is all just a game, really.

If you're majoring in phyics, math, engineering, or computer science, your first two years would be basically the same at community college, so just take the reccomended courses: Gen Eds, Calculus, Physics, and Chemistry, and don't overload yourself your first year (if you are in fact going into your first year).

Spend your extra time getting A's on the courses you DO have, figuring out which science major(s) interest you the most, and having a social life.

And get to know the faculty. Connections can often be far more valuable than coursework. Believe me. If you're transferring, do it as soon as possible, as there is almost definitely 100 and 200 level courses required by the university that your community college does not offer, so look into it. For me, prereq's and such were different here so I will most likely have a 5th year because of that.

I'm not too sure how you crazy americans get by on your crazy system: unit hours, class hours, half lab unit hours half time what?

I was doing about 20-28 hours of class time per week when I went through, so I don't think 31 hours is all that high.

You've never dealt with Oracle. :o

Bleh. What a mess that thing is.

And it's two hours. Per credit hour. Not just two hours of studying.

Like I said: 31 credit hours.

31 * 2 + 31 = 93

Simple math.

I never did more then 17 hrs a semeter (that's with two of them being 4hr classes). So, no more then 5 classes per semester. But that never translates into real hours (for instance, 3 credit hr classes are only about an hour and 15 min) and it's broken up every other day (2 classes Monday and Wednesdays and 2 classes Tuesdays and Thursdays). I never understood everyone's complaint on college taking up too much of their time. I had TONS of free time. Keep in mind also that there' always the Summer semester to cram in a good 6-8 credit hrs. Some college's even offer a 'Maymester' where you can cram a normal semester into one month for some of the easier courses (like Economics or an Art class of some sort).

Don't over burden yourself. Pace yourself or you'll miss the better things in life about being in College. Take my advice, try to stay in College as long as you can. Once you enter the "real world" you'll wish you hadn't. Let me tell you, watching your hard earned money get zapped by bills, mortgages, loans, etc. each month isn't fun and you don't have mommy and daddy to help bail you out if you get in too deep, too.

Just some things to keep in mind.

The amount of time you put in depends on your major. Math takes more time because of problem sets as does physics. Biology and engineering take more time because of the labs.

I think I only had one Math course where homework was required (actually, it wasn't required, but it was subject to a random check). I never did more then one problem per problem set. Labs ussually didn't take long either if you paid attention in class and thought through the lab before doing it. Not that "Actual" lab assignments were common. Maybe once a week at best? Sometimes longer between lab assignments. Of course, all of this is especially true in your first two years (rather it's at a 2-yr or 4-yr institution). You really shouldn't spend more then 9 hrs a day dealing with school stuff. Between going to class and studying (doing work sets, papers, etc.), that should be more then enough. I found that in the majority of my classes (here again, especially in the first two years), all I had to do was show up for class. Hell, in some of them, I didn't even do that half of the time. I had no problem maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

I think a lot of people make college a lot harder then what it really is. I don't know if it's from all of the "horror" stories that are told that make people get so 'uptight' about college or what. But I do know (here again, espeicially in the first two years), that it's not near as time consuming as everyone claims. Anyhow, that's just my peace on the subject.

Yes, CaptBevill, if you go to a joke of a school, it's not that difficult.

Yeah. That sort of effort and a relly competitive school, and you'd flunk out. I know, having gone to a competitive university.

Maybe the person who calculated your GPA went to your school too, and that's why it's 3 times higher than it's supposed to be?

Just a thought.

I'll have you know that business administration is one of the most demanding majors out of my entire university.

I would take a guess that it's hard to get in to the business school, and that's the hardest part. That's the way it works at Haas, hte business school at Cal.
