JK rendering problem
2006-05-10, 5:39 AM #1
(Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum)

Suddenly, my JK looks weird. All the textures look extremely pixelated, even though I have it on the correct resolution. At first I thought it was something to do with mipmapping, but then I noticed the textures close to me were showing the same problem.

This is what it looks like:

And no, that is not what it is supposed to look like. Just look at the textures on the ship and the platform, then compare it to this shot (which is what it is supposed to look like normally) :

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I have been fiddling with the video options in JK, but it didn't help anything.

Perhaps some kind of windows update is responsible for this. Help!

Could it be a profile running in your nvidia card (or Catalyst A.I. set to Advanced if you've got an ATI)

I do have an Nvidia card... but I never touch the profiles. I have no idea what to look for...

It looks like you have 3d-acceleration off.
Sorry for the lousy German

No, it's on.

Software rendering or whatever, maybe?

Software mode, that's it!
I had a blog. It sucked.
2006-05-10, 1:47 PM #7
...read the thread.

Have you tried turning 3D acceleration off, applying settings, and turning it back on again? It sounds like it may be stuck off even though the GUI reports differently.

Hey, emon, guess what? I did read the thread. He said nothing about software mode.

Look and see if software mode is on.

This could be caused by your need to start playing a better game.

And also because this thread is in the wrong forum.

How did you get the two screenshots?
2006-05-10, 3:48 PM #14
Thanks for the suggestions, all. I'm still trying to figure out what's wrong.

I'll try what Emon said.

The 'correct' screenshot is simply an older one, from before I had the problem.

Oh and Rob, there isn't a better game for playing sabers. :p

I remember early versions of Jedi Outcast being alot more fun online than JK.

Didn't work. :(

That is, I did all that in JK, and it didn't work. I hope that is what you meant.

It's fun, but it's not better than SBX, gameplaywise.

Hell no.

SBX is nothing but of extra animations, lame cogging, and crappy fluffy prequel sabers.

It does NOTHING to solve the inherit JK saber problem of stick and bob.

What is stick and bob you ask?

Well I'll explain.

You run in, you attempt to stick your opponent with secondary fire, and then you bob away.

SBX only answer to stick and bob was to add some ****ty flip animations you could activate with a wasted key.

JK lightsabers suck because of engine limitations, and will continue to suck.

Whatever you say. :p I enjoy it immensely. I have played this for years and I have never experienced anything like that. It's even better these days with all the highspeed connections.

Let's get back to the problem, shall we? ;)

Hey Rob, before you make more of an *** out of yourself than you already have, I'd like to point out that he didn't ask for people's opinions on whether or not JK is a cool game. He asked for a solution to his pixelation problem. Bugger off.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Do you have anti-aliasing or anisotropic filtering turned on in your graphics card settings?

I've seen them both cause strange problems with older games.

Hmm... both are set to 'application controlled'. Should be ok, I think?

Try one of these or both of them if need be:
Reinstalling JK
Reinstalling graphic drivers
Nothing to see here, move along.

No. There are much better games out there today.

Yeah, I did that. I even downloaded new videodrivers. None of it helped. :(

I am totally stumped what to do...

Perhaps it could be a DirectX problem... someone recommended that I go back to an older version of DirectX, because I recently updated it, and this might be what's causing it.

I guess it's worth a try...

I've had newer versions of directX mess with games before. had to downgrade to get it to work. It's worth a try. :p
