Lucasarts future gaming info (From E3 interviews)

The president of Lucasarts was on G4's E3 live show only a little while ago, and he was asked some questions which I am sure you all are very curious about.

The question was posed about what would happen with the old classic titles from the glory days, such as Monkey Island and Full Throttle.

The president's response was that there were no plans in the near future for any games from that era. His reasoning is he is pressing his development crew to create brand new games which are BETTER than the old classics. He said maybe around 2015 (I think he was just throwing a number out) they would look into making games in those universes, but he said he wants the company to avoid the mistakes made by new movies such as Bewitched. He said that (paraphrasing) it is simply too early for new games in those universes.

If any more information comes out from E3 concerning Lucasarts and future titles, I'll be sure to keep you all up to date.

That's not a bad idea because expectations from fans of those classics are going to be extremely high for any game they make.

Smart move on their part. It's better to focus on making new games because of what Avenger pointed out.

Yes. Yes. Yes. And have Max pop up during the game!

I imagine that Cool Matty is at E3?

The Wii hijacked this thread apparently. Time to set it straight.

Because it's LucasArts, I bet they will take that concept and do a half-assed job to get some good profits on the excitement.

Yup. Unless the Germans are changing their crazy language again. >.>

Anywho! New LucasArts titles announced:

LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy - From what I seen, you can piolit around in vehicles, such as an AT-ST or the Millenieum Falcon. Looks extremely fun, even though I never tried lego games.

Availability: September 12, 2006
Platform: Gameboy Advance, Gamecube, Nintendo DS, PC, PS2, PSP, Xbox, Xbox 360
ESRB: Rating Pending

INDIANA JONES® 2007 - On G4TV, was rating only "Warm". All we saw was a fight scene, which didn't really look like gameplay at all. Also, if you look at The Godfather: The Game, you might be scared that a previous generation movie might not be up to par with today's gameing standards.

Availability: Summer 2007
Platform: PS3, Xbox 360
ESRB: Rating Pending

Thrillville - Looks meh.

Availability: Fall 2006
Platform: PS2, PSP, Xbox
ESRB: Rating Pending

Traxion™ - Makes my head hurt.

Availability: Fall 2006
Platform: PSP
ESRB: Rating Pending

Star Wars® Empire at War™: Forces of Corruption™
- A new expansion that allows a third faction called the Corrupt side. This game also looks exciting. Even though I don't own it.

Avaliability: Already out (February 16 2006)
Platform: Windows
ESRB: T for "Teen" (Fantasy Violence)

Star Wars Galaxies was also mentioned a few times, however I don't think anything is changed. It is still going to die out.

I've also seen a demonstration with a Wii controller of someone playing a lightsaber-based game, however apparently LucasArts has not announced it yet. What I saw was Luke jumping all over the place killing flocks of Stormtroopers with a green saber on an open field, looks like Naboo.

[EDIT:] Added comments, and links.

Good finds, Anovis. Unfortunately, half the titles to me seem meh.

Interesting. Looks pretty and creative, although the fighting seemed slow. Individual actions were fast but there was a delay between consecutive moves. Indiana could have at least stepped back to brace for the next punch.

Looks good to me. A little rough, yeah, like they spawned some NPCs in a couple levels. I'm wondering how scripted events will work in the game if this newfangled Euphoria really is all it's cracked up to be. A lot of games, AI can get in the way. On the other end of the spectrum, a lot of games become vastly uninteresting when you seperate the NPCs from their precious scripts.
Mainly I'm wondering if a group of those asian gangsters will jack a car if you get on a streetcar without having to have the event carefully scripted.

-{EDIT}I'm also wondering about getting a job there. I mean, that's the sort of work I'd love to get involved in: art and design. Yeah boy.

From what IGN had to say, Lucasarts was "highly interested" in making such a game, so by all means, no playable version should exist yet.
