Why not to buy a crappy power supply.
2006-05-12, 5:41 PM #1
I just got my replacement power supply for my computer; 480 watts, the one that blew about a week ago was 450 (which is enough) but was crappy (paid about 20 bucks for it) and only lasted about a month. Serves me right.

So heed this warning, fellow Massassians: just because you can get a cheap power supply does NOT mean you should buy one.

I could've told you that. In fact, I may have made a thread about it at some point. I blew a cap on my old power supply. Blew. In. Half.

Also, my digital camera sucks at close-up pictures, but you get the idea.

Naw, the one that came with my case was only 350 watts and gave out back in March (it's amazing it held up for so long, really) so I bought a cheapo replacement.

I bought a PC Power & Cooling that cost about $210. Worth every penny for this type of quality and the 5-year warranty that I hear is really amazing.
<Lyme> I got Fight Club for 6.98 at walmart.

NEW TOPIC!

I figured out why I have had so many HDD problems over the past week. Apparently, Dell installs some sort of special code on their HDD's that prevent boot up on foreign computers, and unassignable drive letters for drive mapping.

So, transfering an old Dell HDD -> New computer won't work.

Hmm, I wonder if a low level would fix that or it's it embedded on the ROM. I'm sure there's a firmware you could use to flash it. Or since Dell uses WD HDDs, just flash it with WD's firmware.

I remember the last time my power supply EXPLODED. I was playing the Dark Forces Mod's second demo for Jedi Academy when it happened. I still think that development team owes me a power suppy! IT WAS ALL YOUR FAULT!!!

I've had one go on me. It took a motherboard and a new hard drive with it.
