This is a 4MB stick of ram in 1984

Amazing how much technology has changed over the years.

A PCI slot is probably smaller in length than just one of those 3 connectors, judging by contact size.

If you brought a modern 2 GB SD memory card back to the year 1984 and showed it to one of the VAX engineers, he would probably have a stroke.

Especially if you told him that they will be sold for $40 1984 dollars.

Yeah. It's pretty crazy. But they got a lot smaller quite fast after that.

I used to have a working IBM Big, which is what I am told it was called.

It was a hard drive about the size of a football. It had a scuzzy interface. I got it to work once, wrote a text file on it, and put it in storage in the basement. But I'm more than sure it got thrown out.

It's actually an IBM Bigfoot drive. Not just Big. I used 4 of them as the corners in my hard drive poster.

I'm kinda made that it got thrown out. :(

It made the most awesome noises when I got it to work.

(fixed, as IBM never made the Bigfoot).

Yea, i had one of those in my first compuiter (AST piece of... well.. you get the idea). We had to get the 2GB Bigfoot, to complement the stock 3/4GB HDD that came with the thing :D .

I think the size difference is exaggerated by all the wasted space caused by using hundreds of DIP packages. The size of the resistors and capacitors is also hilarious.

Unfortunately, the size of the board required to mount this would probably cause latency issues, even at period-correct clockspeeds. Also, you'd need to find somewhere to put it all.
