Mouse Gestures. Get them now. I have been fooling around with Firefox's mouse gesture extention today, and let me just say that it blows hotkeys out of the water. I can browse with one hand! This means I can do whatever I want with the other hand!

I saw this forum and said "ehh what the hay"

so i got firefox....*sniff* thank you...thank you..

Thanks, but I don't really feel a need for those mouse gestures. I have a tendancy to mouse the mouse whilest reading a page, thus I feel quite sure I would become very annoyed, very quickly.

I'll stick with my scroll wheel, backspace, tab, and CTL-T.

That was my origninal problem. I solved it by doing this:
  • Tools
  • Extensions
  • Press the little gear next to the "mouse gestures" extension
  • Change "Left mouse button" to "Right mouse button"

I never use the right mouse button for anything while the mouse is moving. This makes it perfect for mouse gestures.

Trust me, try it, and you'll be addicted.

Pie menus (radial context) > Mouse Gestures

Pie Menus are an acquired taste, sure, but . . . . *droooooll*..

I had a problem with the Radial pugin in firefox 0.8... as soon as I did the scroll down funcion, it scrolled down really fast and never allowed me to move back up the page. Really annoying... to bad, because I thought they were kind of cool. Is this a known problem?

I'm too hooked on mouse gestures that i probobly won't use it, but I'll give it another shot. Is it compatable with firefox 0.9?

Yep, still having the same problem. In addition, the menu itself isn't very intutive. I had myself trying to figure out what each button does. I gues it is, like you said, an aqquired taste. But until the scroll problem is fixed, I will continue to use mouse gestures.

Yeah, Ive got that scroll problem too. It doesnt happen in the win32 Firefox... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/confused.gif]
It really doesnt bother me. I never used the scroll feature of RadialContext anwyay.

Also, to be fair, mouse gestures aren't very intuitive either. It took me a while to get the basic movements memorized.

I'd rather just use menu buttons and keyboard shortcuts. As Phoenix said for himself, I too have a tendancy to mouse the mouse whilest reading a page.

Please, read what I said. I do all sorts of fiddling with the mouse when I look at a page. You just need to reamp the gesture function to the RIGHT button, which is never used when the mouse is moving.

Have you ever used a PDA? (Palm, PocketPC, ect...) It's kind of like how you write 'graffiti' with the stylus. You move the mouse to make certain 'gestures', which perform a corresponding action. For example, if I were to hold down the right mouse button and drag the cursor up then right, it would switch to the tab to my right. If I were to hold down the mouse button and drag the cursor left or right, it would go back or forward, respectively.

The default is the left mouse button, but I recommend changing it to the right mouse button as the left button interferes with basic tasks such as highlighting text.

The end result is a much more elegant browser. You only have to use one hand to navigate (heh...), and you can do things much faster once you get the gestures memorized.

I highly recommend enabling the mouse button on the tool-bar once you install it. It opens a side pane with a complete reference chart to all the gestures. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

WindowsXP has an on-screen keyboard. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

And I enjoy randomly right clicking when I'm bored, so mouse gestures are still out on that count. Bwuahah.

Well it only does the gesture if the mouse is MOVING so it wouldn't matter.

gestures are a waste of time.

For me at least. Anything i'd ever want to do with them I have assigned to a button on my mouse [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif] 8 button mice rock.

I'd only use FireFox if it'd have automatic tabbed browing (Opera-ish), and I haven't found a way for that yet, so I'll stick to Opera.
2004-06-19, 1:08 AM #28
What's automatic tabbed browsing mean?

(I already have an idea what you could possibly mean and of course it does exist)

I don't see why you'd just happen to right-click then left-click when browsing. If you did that in IE it'd just bring up the right-click menu (which I do frequently).
All of the mouse gestures you do either by clicking the mouse buttons in a particular order, or by holding down a mouse button and moving it up and/or down and/or left and/or right. You probably wouldn't be doing any of that normally. It doesn't do stuff just if you wiggle the mouse across the screen. That would be just plain annoying.

Not having to hold shift and clicking to open a new page in a tab, but just having a new tab automatically fior every page I open.

Click with your middle mouse button and it automatically opens in a new tab.
