I don't provide much information about my personal life often on these boards, but I'd thought I'd talk about this some because it's pertinent to some of you, I guess, and more importantly, I'm bored.
I've had really, really crappy jobs over the past few summers, and this summer I was truely determined to get a decent job, with decent pay, where I didnt have to wear a nametag.
Through some networking with my parents, I found out they knew someone who operates the open source system Zenoss , so I applied for an internship there, not really thinking I'd get it. To my suprise, I got an interview, which I rocked, and got the job even though I'm in high school still (Going to RIT next year), while the other two interns they hired were coming out of their freshman year of college.
They just got office space, and are just starting the buisness end, coming off of a $4million investment. As such, the interns are taking over the open source end of the company, offering me some really, really great experience before I begin my degree in computer science next year.
I'll be taking over the "community" aspect of the site. Creating and maintaining message boards, mailing lists, etc. Along with developing some more inventive systems of PR for the company, attempting to get outside the open source groups, and into the real world. I don't have much experience with open source, so all of this is overwhelming, but I'll be working with other people in the same boat, and I'm sure I'll pick it up quickly. (Full imersion ftw).
