Is it possible i could make a torrent of the stuff and then use Bittorent to get on the other computer?

DVD, CD, yousendit.com, etc.

Torrents will take too damn long.

Well, if you want a program to do it, what's wrong with enabling sharing and copying files directly over the network?
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

2006-05-22, 10:12 AM #9

Get a flash drivem assuming you have USB ports. They're really cheap.
Pissed Off?

why don't you just take the hard drive out, make it a slave drive, put it in the other computer and transfer all the files that way.

So long as that cable is long enough, you could use it, but it has to be a cross-over cable.

From there just make sure they're both part of a workgroup, and are able to see each other and you should be fine, though you may also have to set static IPs to each computer as well.

you do it exactly like i said. take out the hard drive. change the jumpers to slave configuration. put it in the other computer. really quite simple.

Most newer NIC's detect the cable order and will automatically internally switch if the wrong cable type is used. They're idiot-proof now. :(

As an off-topic to this, many switches/hubs also do this for you, allowing you to use crossover cables if you managed to destroy the clips on your good cable at a LAN party >.>

What about 1.0? They'll still work.

His computer is too old. It doesn't automatically crossover, I can almost guartanee it.

Making a crossover is easy.

Just cut the cable somewhere. Peel back the outside insulation, then strip the insulation on the little wires inside.

For the rest, you should get a diagram on google, because I can't remember what goes where.

And why couldn't you just share the entire drive on the network and drag/drop?

Isn't that XP only?

This is more eight year old sandwich, though. We ARE talking about computers.

not really. with hardware, yes, of course you wouldn't want to be using something 8 years old. but we're talking software, and a casual user would have little reason to spend money switching from 2k to XP, since most applications still support both. I didn't switch to XP until last year, and that was only because I didn't have a choice.
Moo.

He's running Win98, not Win2k. Thus, it's really, really old.

Win98 is an insanely unstable sandwich, if you ask me.
