Playstation 1/2 Games?
2006-05-24, 2:36 PM #1
I just got a Ps2 the other day and I was wondering what some good games to pick up for it would be. Also Ps1 games as well since the whole backwards compatibility thing.

So far I have:

Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
Silent Hill 2
The Thing

I'm also looking into getting a DDR game sometime soon, and was wondering what would be a good one to get into the series with?

Final Fantasy... well, all of them.

I'm a fanboy, I know.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

I mostly play RPGs on the PS1/2. FPS and RTS is for my PC. even though I haven't played any FPS seriously since JK.

Ps2:
RPG.
Kingdom Hearts, both
(you will not be dissapointed if you remotely enjoy a good story, and fun gameplay)
FF X was fun aswell

action.
Return of the King
Enter the Matrix is good considering it's like $5.00 now

Fighting.
Tekken #

Crash Team Racing: Nitro Cart

Ps1:
RPG.
FF VII
FF VIII
FF Chronicles: (FF IV & Chrono Trigger)
Legend of Dragoon

There are a ton more out there I am sure.
I have not had my PS that long and I'm still catching up on the good PS1 games.

The best 3 PS2 games you can buy in Spork's opinion:

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Gran Turismo 4
Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time
The Massassi-Map
There is no spoon.

:p I just knew someone was going to say that when I made the title.
2006-05-24, 3:31 PM #12
Silent Hill 3, maybe 4
Silent Hill 1 <---MUST
Guitar Hero <---MUST
God of War
Katamari Damacy
We Love Katamari
Resident Evil 4
Ratchet and Clank - All
Jak and Daxter - All
GTA: San Andreas (I really think it's the best for the PC with a good controller, or for the PS2 if you're stuck on consoles. A LOT of loadtimes on the Xbox version.)

There's more but that should suffice for now.

Instead of giving you my own opinion, here is a list of games that have generally been the most critically acclaimed for the 2 systems

PS2

God of War and Resident Evil 4 (the biggest Game of the Year contestants in 2005)
Shadow of the Colossos
Final Fantasy X
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal

PSX

Final Fantasy VII-IX
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Chrono Cross (or just buy the Soundtrack, heh)

Do not get Chrono Trigger for the PSX. The game has horrible load times that did not exist in the Super Nintendo version.

The Thing was pretty freaky

Medal of Honour games are my favourite.
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

DDR Extreme 2 would be your best option. It's the newest DDR game for the PS2.
2006-05-24, 5:28 PM #18
Chrono Cross, except it's hard to find (at least here it is, I had to go to a very small, barely heard about game shop to get it)

Final Fantasy 7.

Shadow of the Colossus.

And of the Splinter Cell games.
Very funny Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

Oh yeah.

XENOGEARS.

Along with Xenogears, Vagrant Story is the shizzle.

Grab Gradius III & IV (2 on one disc) for PS2 and if you like them (yay shooters) then get V and tell me if its fun.

Is that actually any good?

It only came out here a few weeks ago, and I'll be damned if I'm paying £50 for it.
nope.

You have all the Metal Gear Solid games, so I can't suggest them like I usually would :p

Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven is good, but you can tell it's age now.

I'm currently playing Dynasty Warriors 5, and it's a good bit of mindless fun if you can find it cheap like I did.

Hmm...I'm trying to suggest games that other people haven't yet. There's quite a few good titles in this thread so far, so take your pick really.

Oh! Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenant. These games are incredible. They might be a little hard to track down, but well worth it. Especially Covenant. You don't really need to have played the original to understand the sequel, but you'll be missing out on a great game if you skip straight to the second. Covenant was one of the few games I've dragged out as much as possible, just to avoid finishing it :o

Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero. Yes, it is that good, I have yet to meet a person who was disappointed with it.

From my PS1 library:

Spyro the Dragon Trilogy
Crash Bandicoot Trilogy
Crash Team Racing
Jet Moto 3
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4
RPG Maker - if you like to fool around with scripting games
Ape Escape
Wipeout 3

A last word of warning... DO NOT GET DARK FORCES FOR PSX. The controls were horribly ported.

2006-05-25, 2:47 PM #32
Tony Hawk 2, and Tony Hawk Underground (the first Underground game) are the best ones, hands down.
Very funny Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

I made it to the semi-finals in our Physics class tournament... But I got beat out by someone who actually owned the game, who got beat in turn by an actual guitar player.

Frequency (2001), and Amplitude (2003)
Fun fun fun :D

They are the predecessors to Guitar Hero, which I haven't played yet...

.....why has no one mentioned Twisted Metal? :(
