I'd just cut them all off. No point having just one finger.

I'd take all of them.

Then I'd cut off the rest of my hand and get a plastic thing attached. Which is interchangable with a spork and a hand holding a plectrum.

Middle, for the obvious reason (sorry) plus a couple that aren't quite as obvious. It's the longest finger, and under the circumstances I'd prefer to keep my reach as long as possible. I can hold a pen about as well with my thumb and middle finger as with my thumb and index finger. Without my pinky, I can't rock out, so that takes away another reason to prefer the index to the middle. Finally, I use my middle finger to hit the comma key, and I love my commas.

I have no idea why somebody says the thumb is not a finger. What is it if not a finger? A toe, perhaps?

I would keep the thumb. It's the one that would be the hardest to replace sufficiently with a prosthesis that would have significant functionality. But if you insist claiming thumb is not a finger (and thus would remain anyway), then it would be the index. It's probably the one used most.

That reminds me of the time James Bond met someone with missing fingers. Bond shot the guy just below the crotch, and commented how the sights were high. The gun was custom made for the man with one finger.

Thumb. The obvious choice, so you can still PICK STUFF UP. Index finger would be swell so you could point, press buttons, etc, but these can all be done with the thumb with the right practice. The ability to oppose the thumb is invaluable to humans.

I don't like my ring fingers because I really don't use them for much and as a result they are a lot weaker than my other fingers. If I had to choose one finger to lop off, it would definitely be a ring finger.
